can you give me some examples for good, new strategy games ? until now i've played the "age of" games but the look of them isn't so good because they are so old ... but i haven't found a better or compareable gameplay (expected of wc or sc, but they are also not so new ...) until now or maybe something completely different that is also fun to play, so i hope that you can help me ;D
Realistic means what exactly? In terms of entertainment? I would say the excellent balance of Starcraft II beats that. In terms of education? If so, play the more precision-based Age of Empires II, it has a library of knowledge (literally) and modded maps that still retain a small playerbase. That and you have base building.
The only thing I can see Total War offering that Starcraft II can't is simply realism, but even so that harms the game in terms of micro capabilities and the skill level. Starcraft II clearly demonstrates more micro capabilities with more unique units that can interact in various different ways.
In terms of superior unit positioning, resource management, military production, diplomacy, religion and use of special agents.
Starcraft 2 is really a good game, just like Highfire said. It goes beyond rock-paper-scissors style of play and you are engaged with different races that requires radically different play styles.
I'd say the total war series are better if you like a more slow paced RTS, and vise versa for SC2... I could also recommend Supreme Commanders if you don't like the smaller scale battles of SC2... The larger armies kinda take out any aspect of micro though...

Exactly. TTW is more for players who like to think in the long run, since a game can go on for weeks if played properly, and if you play out each battle. SC2 is more for players seeking a rush of adrenalin; I don't recall my pulse racing twice as fast when I launched my conquest of Rome.
