I think the best we could hope for is some kind of virus that does not kill the victim, but merely melts their brain down to its reptilian core. It's this core of our brain that controls our most primal urges to feed and survive. When survivors resort to cannibalism, it is often because a lack of nourishment has caused all but this core part of the brain to shut down, thus preserving energy.

In my own fiction the body is basically a meat puppet to a colony of microbial parasites. They alter the tissues of the body, preserving it and can link together replacing the dead nervous system with themselves. In this way the person would indeed be dead and the body manipulated to still move.

First we need to know the definition of a zombie.

If it is a mind less body that has lost all feeling and is mindlessly wandering around.

But if it is a zombie depicted in the movies.

Either way a "zombie" can not be real because without a mind then it can not make muscles move.

parasites are never 100% able to controle the body's.

i made a long post about that a few weeks ago. tbh i CBA. so i wont do it again. just wanted to point out that parasites are unable to make humans are any animel for that matter to become or show to be zombies. or any other undead.
parasites need a living host. if the host dies the parasite can't use the body.

do whit this what you want. but in reality it is impossible =)

Technically there is this thing called voodoo. In Hatian culture there have been witch doctors that have brought people back to life to work as slaves- mindless, zombie, slaves. I believe these were originaly called "zombi" (I don't know look it up your self). However they were not flesh eating, insane, killer zombies and even if there were to be a zombie virus break out, There are many reasons that zombies could not live for more than a few months. They are rotting meat sacks for crying out loud! They will eventually decompose by the end of a month. So no, no way a killer zombie could be real; a slave zombie, sure. A killer zombie, not a chance.

Didn't you say zombies are just sacks of rotting meat? So why would the former survive and the latter not if you follow your train of thought?

So, you actually believe this... voodoo works? How do you imagine could such a thing be possible?

I don't think he actually believes it, but is just raising a point that such a thing exists.

voodoo shamans can curse or heal someone and its said they can communicate with the dead. but i have never seen a voodoo-zombie.

i heard you need a hair or blood or a nail from someone to curse him/her with a voodoo puppet, but i dont know if it works.

He certainly sounded as if he believed there are slave-zombies from voodoo shamans. But it's nothing more than neat magic tricks and healing herbs. It's just so deep anchored into their culture and religion that they believe it, just like other people believe in ghosts or the undead, for whatever reason.

We'll just have to wait and see how he explains himself. It is interesting though, to see the cultural development of Zombies from voodoo based entities to the flesh eating, virus infected beings today in popular media.

Yes, I did. I would think that each "zombie" would have the same lifespan.

I'm not saying that voodoo doesn't work, nor am I saying it does. There have been reports of those things, thats all I'm saying.

I did not mean it to sound that way.

In my post I was more or less giving a background of zombies and saying that there would be no way for a contemporary zombie to survive.

That's not how you said it earlier:

''They are rotting meat sacks for crying out loud! They will eventually decompose by the end of a month. So no, no way a killer zombie could be real; a slave zombie, sure. A killer zombie, not a chance.''

Since they have the same lifespan, since both are rotting sacks of meat, how can theoretically speaking of course, a slave zombie survive rather than a killer zombie? You still haven't answered my question.
