Lots of GbA games are 2d. Nowadays graphics are made a huge deal out of, when at most they can add to the game. I don't think you'll find any modern games on any main gaming system that isn't 3d, even if it's like scrabble or chess online.
Graphics can make a game better, but they can't make a good game.
