The election is coming up in a matter of months (it will be here before you know it) and I realised: gosh darnit, I'm not going to get to vote this year.
So, here's the question: do you think that the right to vote should be limited to certain aged individuals? Should the age limit be raised? Lowered?
You don't even realize that expanding the right of voting of a selected few is still a limitation of the right of voting to all others, don't you? Didn't history teach us better than that?
No, it isn't limitation of the rights of voting to all others. How would this be the case? If you are saying that by allowing other people in the country-those people whose voices cannot be "heard", so to speak-are going to limit others' voting rights by voting, than you are making no sense.

I'm going out on a limb and assuming Hahiha meant that, you're still going to limit those under 14 under your proposed system from voting. If that's the case, there's never going to be an end to the debate until even toddlers are given the vote.
Hmm.. I don't know, 14 is definitely too young but whether 16 or 18 is the best limit, I'm not sure it makes a big difference. But a limit has to be set somewhere, and I feel like 18 is still a sensible one. Putting the age limit at 16 would IMO need better justification to be validated, than I've seen in this thread so far.

The difference is that at 16, you're still under the control of parents and may be pressured to vote like them. At 18, you're completely free to make your own decisions.

Ah. True, I didn't account that 18 is also a limit for legal adulthood in all aspects. Well then, if you'd change the voting age to 16 you'd have to put all other age limits from 18 to 16 too, and wouldn't that be too much of an administrative effort and money waste for probably a minor influence on the voting results?
I'd actually be more for raising the voting age to 21 than lowering it. At 18 you don't have a lot to worry about i.e. bills, car insurance and rent. When you're 21 your probably living on your own and relying on yourself not your parents. Your more affected by politics than when your younger.

Toddlers don't understand politics, and they would most likely just do what their parents say. Teenagers can think for themselves. Big difference there.

Why would you have to do that? You shouldn't be allowed to buy cigarets when you're 16, I would favor raising that age to 21, just because it's a nasty habit!

To keep consistency. Or why should someone who isn't allowed to buy cigarets or alcohol, be allowed to vote about political manners? People are legally adult at 18 and that's why they get to vote only then. Setting the legal adulthood limit at 16 or 21 both seems arbitrary to me.
Explanation?
You really think 14 year olds are mature enough to understand those things? I may not have been very interested in politics before but I personally wouldn't have trusted my vote even at the age of 16.

To register to vote in the US you have sign the form to swear/affirm that what you wrote was true. I don't think that your allowed to do that if your underage. Also when I go to vote at my local poll I have to again sign a piece of paper though I can't remember what that's about.
That's the point of the test being administered to them, to see if they could vote.
Again, I doubt such a test would be credible at all. It's not grammar we're talking about, it's opinions. Political opinions. There's no right or wrong answer, there are stupid or intelligent answers at best. And I would trust noone to have the power to decide who's to vote and who not.
