Oh pooh, you miss out on moderates like me! And yourself!
LOL Yes nichodemus, I saw/know that, but I was actually trying to address the others participating in this thread... trying to make them broaden their horizon, so to speak! =)
Ok, fair enough... but then explain to me what the reason IS for them hating him? Hehehhh... =P

The most base reason is that people like to put down people more successful than themselves. Despite everything they say, and however much they deny, there's always a small nagging part in a hater's brain that at that young age, he has probably made more money and gotten more fame than you ever will in ten life times.

LOL I think you nailed the core of the problem right there Nichodemus! =P
And seeing as the post above yours confirms this a bit, I'd say you should have this patented maybe?
"He does what he does and he does it well..." I should say! =)
I'll patent the reason, make merchandise out of it, and jump on the Bieber wagon! Splendid!
It's quite strange to think that many won't mind the music if he was a girl eh? So, the reason at hand surely cannot be the fault of the music, his songs are no more bland or commercial as other typical pop stars today.
LOL Yes, especially if she would look like a young Madonna or similar... that would surely get the male audience quiet there! =)
It's a matter of a well played merchandising strategy, where popular commercial music is matched with a -to young girls- good looking young male singer and a HUGE advertisement campaign... put it in a blender and out he comes... voila! Bieber-mania!! =D
Okay, since I don't follow pop culture, I didn't know ANYTHING about this guy. So, I looked him up on Wikipedia, and searched for his music on YouTube. Starting from scratch with the information as it were, I believe I have reached conclusions as unbiased as reasonably possible.
My conclusions: 1. I don't care for his music. But then, I don't like most modern music, so I don't dislike him any more or less than 95% of what's out there anyhow.
2. If you look at his history, he's actually quite the success story. He was born to a teen mother and raised in low-income housing in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Much of his skill with singing and instruments is self-taught, which does indicate a certain strength of character and willingness to expand his capacities despite less than ideal circumstances.
3. As to popularity, every new(ish) singer or performer has their time of fame and fortune. Most fade away after the novelty wears off; some last on. Some say that his fame, marketing, and following are overblown; personally, I agree, but if you look, modern society tends to do that with most every pop star and famous personage. MrDayCee commented on the phenomenon of "Bieber-mania" as the result of Bieber's popularity with young girls, which to some is an additional catalyst for not liking him. But it's not new. Look back 40-50 years at The Beatles; they received similar attention and swooning, and today their music is almost universally loved and sought after.
Final Conclusion: His music - Some like it, some don't, so same as every other performer who ever played. Personally, I don't like it, but I can't judge for other people. For popularity, today's society has a tendency to blow things way out of proportion and idolize stars, but that's nothing new, and the fact that Bieber has gained such acclaim indicates that a lot of people like his performances. Performing style aside, the kid is a success story, and his past demonstrates a goodly level of motivation and perseverance. And to all of the absolute haters out there, you are not justified in distributing copious spite just because he's a "heartthrob." You may not like his music, you may not like that some people like him, and you may not like that he's famous, but that does not provide any excuse to wish death or evil upon him. If you don't like him, ignore him. It's not as though he were a psychopathic mass murderer, a crazed evil terrorist, or a megalomaniacal dictator; those would merit hate and destruction. A teen pop star isn't worth setting new record highs with your blood pressure or wasting time telling the internet how much you hate him. Get over it already.
I KNOW it's going to undermine my own point of view on this matter a bit...
...but I couldn't resist to put this up here! It's more of a protest in general against de degrading quality level in music and Bieber just happened to be used for this image, that's all...
I mean, whatever happened to good music, he sings like a little girl, and his lyrics are meaningless
So now....singing by a girl is considered bad taste? Apropos, on your second point, it's not just a JB isolated incident case. Much of pop music is becoming bland.
I really don't like Justin Beibers music but me and my friends agreed if I saw him in the street I should try get him autograph just because he's famous!
