What's up with gung-ho Americans? Why must it always be boiled down to having a war? Obama has one of the more successful foreign policies in nearly two decades, and that without war. Either way we are straying. Other than oil, what do you guys think are good sources of energy for America? America specifically.

Why not just oil mine America? We are supposed to have vast resources in oil in several parts of the country, simply devoting some money into finding them should have satisfactory results. Why would it be necessary to take another countries resources when we have so many ourselves?

Wait, if it's so 'easy' why didn't America search for those a long time ago already?

They know it's there. But it's going to take some time to actually get it out, and even then, they don't quite have enough.

Well turns out we didn't use oil a long time ago. But fairly recently we have mined 36 percent of our oil ourselves, and our biggest imports are from our friendly neighbors Canada and Mexico, so there is plenty of oil here. Just have to start digging.

It states that you can bear arms. It doesn't state you can invade other nations. BIG difference.

You can't just buy land off a country, and I'm sure they wouldn't let you do so. It's much too important to them, since it makes their monopole.

Did'nt yanks bought a part of alaska frm russia?
As for the oil, you will have to accept the terms of oil supplying countries as I don't think yanks are gonna start a war soon enough.

Isn't Alaska a state of the US...? Well the whole arctic region apparently has interesting ressources, but I'd sink every tankship that comes close to it if I could...

Alaska was originally part of the Russian Empire, which was sold to America in the Alaska Purchase of 1867.

According to my driver's license, I can confirm that Alaska is, in fact a state. We recently celebrated 50 years of statehood. And yes, there is quite a bit of oil/natural gas up here. Alaskan legislators have been trying for many, many years to be allowed to drill for more oil on the north slope. But, it probably won't happen.

At any rate, drilling for more oil is obviously just putting off the problem. It won't be long before oil reserves are depleted, and we have to find another source of energy anyway. I think that it is quite clear that finding an alternative source will be the only lasting solution.

For less than 115 million dollars, in today's money. Now, we're pumping out more or less 400,000 barrels of oil a day (worth maybe $40 million. A day.) So, a bargain.

Instead of relying on other people's oil, we need to use up our natural gas first. To me it seems like we are being selfish by taking the oil away from countrys that need it and we are keeping all the natural gas to ourselves. Some people actually believe this too.
