I've only been on this site for a day, and so far I'm enjoying it Anyway, I read all the stickies and rules and whatnot, but are all of the rules applicable? For example, the rules page says this:
- Do not post material that is hateful or mean towards race, religion, sex, or any other offensive nature. You can debate religion and politics in the WEPR forum, but you can do so WITHOUT being mean or hateful about it.
But to what extent is that appropiate? I understand that some of us are more sensitive to others, but at what point is it not tolerable?
Also, on the stuff I mention before: the rules page says that you shouldn't post anything hateful. Example: I saw this user post this:
. . .If, by any chance, they are idiots and continue even past that. . .
But wouldn't that be flamming spammers and calling them idiots?
So, 1) To what extent are the rules listed tolerable and untolerable and 2) Are there any other rules on Armor Games but are not listed on the rules page?
But to what extent is that appropiate? I understand that some of us are more sensitive to others, but at what point is it not tolerable?
If you are hateful about it, you are far past the line. Like, I don't know... "Everyone with a religion should go kill themselves.", "Every religious person I have ever met have been ignorant to even the smallest fact, so obviously they are not very intelligent." and "You are a Christian? Wow, how can you even spell?" would be on the side that will get you banned. "I do not agree with the point you are making, religious person, because I do not share the same paradigm as you, but I see your point. In my opinion, however, [point about thing being discussed]." would be alright. If you are going to point fingers at them, go ad hominem on them or point fingers, you are doing it wrong.
But wouldn't that be flamming spammers and calling them idiots?
No. I pointed out that anyone that, after several warnings and bans still continue to break the exact same rule over and over are idiots. It isn't flaming since I am not pointing to a specific person, persons or even a specific group. I am just pointing out that someone is either not particularly smart, or might be a bit of a jerk if they continue a behaviour that is against the rules, after being told not to, and thus taking up the time of the moderators that could be used on something else, when they, alternatively, could just quit, as they will be leaving AG no matter if they leave the site on their own, or continue breaking the rules. An example of how I could have flames would be: "Your friends sounds like epic morons, and to be honest, I think you should just contact an admin directly and tell them to permaban them, so we don't have to suffer through such people of lesser intelligence that are unable to read or comprehend simple rules such as "Don't be a blood idiot and break the rules, you [explicits]". Actually, I will go tell them exactly this, so if you would please put all their usernames out in public so I can name and shame them some more, it would be nice."
As for unlisted rules, there might be mentioned some in the Guide. But we do have some unmentioned taboos. Like "Don't whine about losing points" and "Don't tell how many points you need for a certain armatar".
No problem. Always better to be completely sure, than make a stupid mistake because you didn't want to bother someone with questions, eh?
I believe... Trolling would be considered baiting someone into replying in a certain fashion, often in anger, and perhaps trying to get someone banned via their response. Like posting something that will trigger a lot of rage from others. But the definition is a bit fuzzy since the general definition of the word has changed a lot since it started getting used. But, well, any malicious activity that runs on the intention of getting others in trouble or make them angry, shocked, or react in a negative manner, often for fun to to actually get them banned, I guess.
Though, of course most of that could be put under breaking the Terms and Conditions (like being hateful, or posting nonpg13 content, especially explicit nudity or gore) or flame baiting, that is, saying something that will make people flame you.
Oh ok. So the "off topic" thing still kinda applies. And another question: I saw someone say that they were banned because of necro'ing. How old does the thread have to be before you can't post in it? 2 weeks? 1 month?
