I used to play an epic game when i was younger. It played 2d, with somewhat good graphics. The opening title had a big blue circle with twisty things. In some areas, enemies had circles and when they filled up they would come back alive. You have a rival, and i think it is the 2nd time he makes a giant red-black circle thing appear.
