You know when I was really young some people would shout USA at me and I thought they were just being proud of there country. Later, I learned that they were saying that to me because I was filipino on my mothers side. What exactly do you call that?
And also, I was making that comment because macfan said that it was "liberal media." Fox is notoriously conservative.
I don't think it's racist, I mean if there was a Hockey game with Americans vs. Sweden, American Fans would say "USA, USA!" Just like Swedish fans would shout "Sweden! Sweden!" Rooting for your country isn't Racist.
Again, it was the context that the chanting was in. An almost all-white school beat an almost all-minority school.
Wait....how is chanting 'USA, USA' even racist? It's just unfortunate that both teams were comprised of two clear cut races. If the American team had comprised of blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics and what not, I'm pretty sure chanting that would not have gotten them into trouble. People must be blind and moronic to think that American citizens are only white.
Notice they didn't shout ''White! White!'' Now, that would have given the haters a strong case. Unfortunately, what they chanted instead, was the name of their country, given the historic rivalry and animosity between America, and especially amongst the Texans towards the Mexicans, which to me, gives it a more patriotic flavour, rather than the hysterical finger pointing of racism that the officials somehow saw.
So yeah, all this highlights to me is something like the White-Man's Burden complex, when you feel so tripped up by guilt that everything that can be remotely connected to race provokes a quick response, that only makes racism an issue that won't go away soon.

A few of us have already established that chanting USA! in itself is not racist, although noone seems to notice that. However it is unfortunate in this situation specifically, and although not really being racist, it is insulting and severely mistimed. No reason to go to court, really, except that in America you can go to court for pretty much anything and win as long as you can play on things like political correctness. Yes, I'm saying money could be a reason for the choice of going to court. Could.
However you would shout that if you won the war wouldn't you?
no, i would have thought about what it has cost us. wich is more then it's worth.
and in this case, it was very obvius this would not be the end of the war. because your fighting a unbeatable enemy, their will always be terrorism.
The USA probably is the most racially diverse country you have find
that depends alot about where in the usa you talk about. on the coasts your totaly right. but the more you get inland, the less diverse races there are.
Heck, we have a black president, and we're racist?
just this argument could be twisted around that you are racist =P (just saying)
Notice they didn't shout ''White! White!'' Now, that would have given the haters a strong case.
would the same count for "yellow yellow" or "brown brown" or the simple counter part "black black". my guess would be no.

I agree that it isn't at all racist and of little significance, but I understand how some could find it a bit offensive. I don't, however, understand how it could be considered patriotic; it wasn't a US high school playing a Mexican high school, it was two US high schools playing each other. It makes as little sense as if the Yankees were to chant "USA" after beating the Red Sox. Instead, it seems as if in chanting "USA!," they meant to imply that the team made up of Mexican Americans weren't (legally) American or something of that sort.
What relevance does this photo have to the discussion?
I'm trying to explain that the hispanics have also been racist and anti-American. The people who did the flag abuse thing where hispanics living in America.
Sorry take that back. I'll reword it. If you are an American citezen, then you're an American. Your not an American if you're and illegal. Oh, and illegal means illegal.
