This
article states:-

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - At least 14 youths have been stoned to death in Baghdad in the past three weeks in what appears to be a campaign by Shi'ite militants against youths wearing Western-style "emo" clothes and haircuts, security and hospital sources say.

Most people don't like EMOs and other people like them and think they are in witchcraft etc but I think its a bit harsh and stupid.
I mean I don't like people wearing pants waay below waist line but I won't kill them for that.
What are your opinions?

Seriously , all emo's cut and you're a wannabe goth if you don't cut, but you're also wrong if you cut yourself and you need to commit suicide. Very nice.
Talking about stereotypes , like punisher said there are also people who aren't emo or "wannabegoth" that cut themselves.
And everyone that commits suicide is supposed to be emo? I find that hard to believe.

Besides it's ignorant narrowminded derps that go on frontal assualt on everything they don't like that creates people with self/world hate.

Personally I'm Gothic and I find it barbaric for a person to be stoned to death, for dressing Gothic or being Emo, and isn't cutting their way of getting rid of their pain?

Again, not all emos cut themselves, and not all emos dress exclusively black, so it kinda wrong to say you're a wannabe goth if you don't cut yourself.. and being goth or emo isn't only about the dressing, an important part of it is music, and I guess emo music is slightly different from gothic music.. Darktroop07, is that correct?

and isn't cutting their way of getting rid of their pain?

Not really getting rid of it, but as I understand it, it's to temporarily superpose the psychical 'ain' by physical pain. Not really different from what you said.

Just to clarify , that was being sarcastic , i know not all emos cut nor that all people that cut themselves or mutilate themselves in any other way are emo.

Besides , i'm an openminded person and have many friends with different styles including a pair of goth and emo twins.

Ah ok. I wasn't quite sure about how serious it was meant; in the doubt I preferred to reply.

Goth and emo twins? Now that's original^^

I don't like the whole killing them but I can't seem to muster up any sympathy either. I have a lot of animosity towards certain social groups that I personally blame for the downfall of music and EMO is one of those groups.

If you hate your life why not end it? There's no use of staying alive if you don't want to be. If you do want to stay alive and live a good life, do something about it. If you can't, oh well...

I'd like to point out that no one here has taken into account that this is happening in Iraq, a culture that is completely different from ours. Unless one of the posters happens to be from Iraq?

While we can all talk about how we would react, face the facts, for the most part I assume the posters live in nations were freedom has always been the most prevalent of rights. Iraq contains a different government, a different people, a different history.

Also as for the comments about hating life and being cutters, stow it. Of all the places in this community, the WEPR is the last place for blanket statements.

Their culture is still very ... repressed, religious, and these places don't have freedoms where you wear what you like, emo is a part of west culture music (the cutting, the self loathing, or sexuality, those things are trivial, they have nothing to do with the stoning.) and they saw that as treason against god, or county, or whatever, and went berserk, however this isn't the case any more, and the youth is able to experiment with any style of culture they want, (now that they know they are EMOS and not pagans) the overall fact is they are afraid of change and are still very new to freedom.

As for my opinion? If I was an easterner raised under those stars in those winds with those lessons offered to me. If I saw a man or woman in black, with chains, and dark make-up, I would be terrified. (Really think about it that would be ----ing scary) Killing them is going pretty far, if they believe in dark arts they are probably unstable and what if they do believe in satan, think they can sacrifice people to raise the devil? Probably better to kill them before they do anything evil<- Just thinking from perspective.

That's terrible that a government (openly) kills youths simply for what they wear... and in such a brutal way. It's truly a pity and it deeply saddens me.

good emo people just ***** about everything but they have great lives i hate gay and emo people they should all die

That was harsh. Maybe you hate an emo/gay person because they're not the nicest person to you, but to say that you hate all of them is just ignorant.

Again, you're looking at this from a western POV, Medpack was completely correct in what he said, in the repressed, socially inhibited and most importantly post war culture that currently rules Iraq, the strangeness of the Emo clothing and lifestyle being so suddenly introduced is equivalent to showing the colonial puritans modern medicine, it results in shouts of witchcraft and general paranoia from the populace.
