It was a better game if you were into trading, diplomacy and research, but it was horrible on a macro-military level. Why? Simply put, there were too few provinces. There might be those tiny towns/mines/schools to garrison, but if you're going to constitute France as just one single measly province then....yeah, not even fun to play after a while. After I smashed France with the Ottomans for example, the map was largely red, before I bothered sending fleets across the Atlantic. Made me turn to the EU games which had a better balance of military action, diplomacy, research, yada yada.
Still, the naval battles were a nice touch, and I must say, the real-time battles just keep getting better.
The Total War series is one of my favorite series. However I have only played Rome and Shogun 2. I like how they are turned based and real time. I am curious if Empire is any better then those that I have played.
huh, wow, i was too busy expanding against the Ottomans (Playing Russia) to notice anything happening in west Europe
Well, I went for Russia first, but when I went for France/Spain, I was disappointed. Then again, it's much harder to hold onto the provinces now, given that for France, the Capital city is the only one in the province, and is usually, heavily armed. Rebellions are not rare too.
West Europe. Expanding East is just too much of a hassle and not worth it. Also, the American colonies would be well developed, so it's hard to get a foothold there.
holy crap one of my cities has Grenadiers available!
That's only if they have expanded quite far like in my game. And they usually have a web of alliances. Anyway, here's a quick guide on where to expand.
