I haven't bought the game yet but I have been wondering if I should even consider buying it based on what other people have said.
I heard that most of the game is very good but the ending is terrible. Does the ending out weigh the rest of the good features about the game or is the game still worth playing? What do you guys think?
I am not taking a stance on if the game is good or bad I just want to know what others think before I consider buying the game.
Not to spoil it, but the ending is the same for any combinations of decisions you make, and yes, it's an awfully sad ending.
But no matter, the devs have hinted they're going to release more downloadable endings due to fan outrage and pressure.
That aside, the game itself is fantastic, and I don't think you should weigh your decision based on just the ending, when 99% of the game is made of awesome sauce.
I recommend playing ME1 and ME2 before that if you haven't done it yet. When you don't have save from them some options are locked (like some endings, partners etc.)
The game is amazing despite the poor endings, and I've probably spent at least as much time playing it multi-player as I did single-player. The multi-player feature is actually pretty fun, despite being somewhat repetitive and having few maps (at the moment, hoping for more!).
And, yeah, as Loptice said, if you don't have the prequels, get and play those first.
Thanks. I couldn't tell from what I heard if the overall game play was better or worse then the last two games. Its nice to know they will be making new endings.
However, I do still think the last two games are aswome.

I liked it more than the second one, and about the same as the first.
I liked all the ammo/weapons/armours from the first, and was very disappointed when they removed most of it in the second. The third game has found a balance between the two, with more weapons, weapon mods, skills per character, armours, etcetera than the second game without it being overwhelming for casual players (inventory management was a bit of a pain in the *** in the first).
There's also a DLC in which you get a Prothean (Yeah, the 50K year old race that was wiped out by the reapers) companion. I think he was called Javik. It's a bit expensive for just a companion (and a short quest where you meet him, and the rifle he carries) but it was very interesting. If you, like me, were quite curious about the Protheans, then I'd recommend getting it. I don't want to say too much, but the Protheans were not at all the way I had imagined them to be.
