I am a big fan of classic movies which are much better then the stuff that comes on know. Some of my favorites are: ----- The Dirty Dozen 12 Angry Men The Great Escape Casablanca The magnificent 7 Duck Soup ----- What are you favorites?
To be honest, I'm not a big fan of classic movies, but there's one which fascinates me. Maybe it's a bit too "classic" because it was filmed on 1933 I'm talking about the movie "King Kong". Obviously, they didn't have the special effects we have nowadays, so back then this movie looked amazing. Besides, I love the last scene when Kong climbs to the top of the Empire State Building. It's an epic scene.
I didn't like that movie because, as you said, the special effects were absolutely terrible in my opinion. But everyone should see the Great escape and the Magnificent 7 sometime in their life.
Cool Hand Luke is easily my most favorite classic movie. There are other great ones, like all the ones you have all posted but Cool Hand Luke is my personal favorite.
How about those 'Spaghetti Westerns' from the 60's?! =)
Got to love Clint Eastwood and his silent charcters in those epic westerns!!
"For a Fist Full of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More", "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "Hang 'em High", "Paint Your Wagon", "Two Mules for Sister Sara", "Joe Kidd", "High Plains Drifter", "The Outlaw Josey Wales", "Pale Rider".
Can't get enough of those! An asset to any DVD home movie collection! =D

I wouldn't say the special effects are terrible. They're just old and I can't judge the entire film only by that thing. Leaving that aspect aside, I think the film is quite entertaining.

I remember when my father forced me (in a good way) to watch these films. I hated them when I was younger, but as I grew up I started to enjoy them. They wouldn't be my first choice, though.
I forgot to mention Charles Chaplin films on my first post. I love The Tramp, Chaplin's principal character; he always makes me laugh. Modern times and The great dictator are my favourites. I think I've watched these films more than thirty times.
