And now this thread is just turning into fanboyism...

When was this not a thread of fanboyism? The question posed invites that nature into the discussion, same goes with every other game thread.

no quote buttons on my computer for those of you who dont know yet

"Dude, Skyrim would beat CoD into Last July. CoD sucks, Skyrim, Minecraft, and Halo rule."
HAHAHA! minecraft has less of a plot than cod man! skrym would be awful online, just think, what would you do to keep it skrym? and cod already beats halo 10 to 1. better online gameplay. those are currently my top three least liked games.

&quotickpocket I guess it wouldn't be called a shooter, maybe a game where you kill each other. What are those called?"
LOTR conquest or whatever was like that. it wasnt that bad, but its no match for CoD in my opinion.

"Anyways,I guess your right,I like my kind of games, and you like yours.I was just describing how good I think minecraft is.You can build anything you want that you couldn't in real life. The game is for people who want to be creative."

dont get me wrong, im creative. i just fail to see the point of making a game out of being creative. i mean, as stated, you can use legos or stuff like google sketchup.

"Well, yes, but I was referring more to the 'Minecraft sucks because COD' type comments. My question is why they are even being compared... Minecraft might match COD in a couple of areas, but generally sandbox is not compared with first-person shooters. As brought up before, Minecraft is just a game. It has as much purpose as any other game."

thats exactly what im wondering. why would these two be compared?

"Also the open world is nice because it leaves you to do what you WANT to do, not what the game wants you to do, if you just have a little creativity minecrat is awsome"

i see your point but ehh, its just not my kinda game. i find it slow. i like games and movies that are fast paced and action packed. but, well what im talking about is the people who obsess over the game. i mean in school last year about 1/4 of the class was playing it EVERYDAY in class..... not saying other games are supposed to be educational, but their is a difference between creativity and obsession.... the thing i dont get is how it gets people addicted that much.

I can see Skyrim as a co-op game but not online multiplayer. That would suck. And I prefer Garrys Mod when I want to be creative, it is alot cheaper and its a First Person Shooter. Has endless possibilities like Minecraft but the graphics are way better.

I'm also very annoyed by people who just talk about ONE game.Nowadays people will talk non-stop about CoD or Skyrim.I say one word of Banjo Tooie or Legend of Zelda and they look at me with a clueless face. It's annoying too when half the people in your class haven't even heard of a Nintendo 64 or Sega Genesis

I've never played it (Really). But I have seen gameplay and I'd even want to try it because, yeah, it's like a Lego-Build-Whatever-You-Want game.

But I'm not gonna buy the game because here, in Malaysia, I can't seem to get one.

I think Minecraft was based off of something called Infiniminer, which was a game where (I guess) you dug forever.

It's so popular not just because of the gameplay, just what you can make with it! If you search "minecraft creations" on YouTube or Google, there is some pretty amazing stuff.

Minecraft is usually known to catch many peoples attention that have little concern to grahics. It isn't made for the graphics. It is made/created to influence people a new source of genre to a type of game, in creating and making stuff and it's not about fighting which is something continous like Call of Duty.

Jeez, enough with call of duty. All you little battlefield fans shut up. "oh call of duty this, call of duty that". Give it a rest. The next time someone compares this game to cod I'm gonna flip out.
And Stay on topic ok. This is about why is minecraft popular not why your school does like old games or the wine about cod thread. Gawsh

I understand the games idea, but I just don't see how or why it's so popular.
