the moon was not dark blue, i saw it as a light blue. maybe it was only my imagination but the moon looked light blue with a slight glow.
yes it's possible it was "real". but isn't caused by something related to space. most likely it was volcanic ash, forestfire clouds or small but heavy pollution.
The key to a blue moon is having in the air lots of particles slightly wider than the wavelength of red light (0.7 micron)--and no other sizes present. This is rare, but volcanoes sometimes spit out such clouds, as do forest fires:

the moon turns around the earth in a oval. the time it is closer to earth it will show itself lighter and more glowing. so if you saw a blue moon when the moon was closer to the earth. it would be a blue moon you discribed.
