Mostly because it's freaking impossible.

Here's my issue. It basically doesn't save progress. Sure, it'll save the "level" you're on, but actual PROGRESS is ignored. For example, killing a few zombies or boxes earns me a few coins to use to upgrade things. But the character itself can't take on 5 zombies at once, no matter what weapon I have. (Which at the moment, is just a crowbar and the second ranged weapon). So when I inevitably die, it'll take away everything I earned and I have to do it all over again.

Fleeing... doesn't work. The zombies will consistently crowd on top of the gate I flee behind so hit-and-run tactics are impossible.

This game trips over the line between Difficulty and Stupidity. I can't ever afford to upgrade so I waste thirty minutes of dieing without any progress. There's no point in playing this game if it does that.

You can stun the zombies by double-tapping down.

^ What he said.
I did first believe that the game was impossible. The game made a poor job of showing a more explained tutorial. It never told you HOW to stun the zombies, but just tells you that you can, period. It's silly.
After learning you can stun, the game became stupidly EASY. I did enjoy it slightly, but I'll doubt I'll play it again.

Also, you don't get much each round when you die, just about 1-2 of each type of castle material and some gold. Not much to complain about.

Stun doesn't help me that much, not sure what to do.

Do I melee them as they're stunned or do I run? Either way, they don't STAY stunned long enough for me to do much.

I didn't have the patience to get far enough in the game to have these difficulties... the king moved so slowly that I couldn't stand playing it for more than a few minutes!

So that's my issue with the game.

If you hit a zombie after you stun them, they are no longer stunned. What you want to do is stun them and run away so that they are in bow range.

If there are too many to use the bow safely, go to a gated area.

Stun the zombies by the gate and kill the ones at bow range. Since the bow doesn't hit for close-ranged attacks, the zombies at the gate remain stunned and you safely can pick off the ones further away for several seconds.

For the ones at the gate, you can either wait for them to move away from the gate into bow range or stun them, hit them, go back in the gated area, and repeat. Waiting for several seconds between attacks to let your stun charge back up.

Even after the speed upgrades? He's supposed to be slow in the beginning, but the game doesn't seem that well designed since it's really punishing (by ending up rather difficult/tedious) if you don't choose make good choices with upgrades and weapons.

Even after the speed upgrades?

They weren't available early on enough, so I got bored with the game entirely just because I didn't have the attention span to wait for the king to shuffle back and forth!
