In an effort to procrastinate doing everything...okay, really simply to revise my material for next semester when I start working at hospitals (but the first one sounds less dorky D

...anyway...

In an effort to revise my material, I'm inviting each and every one of you to ask any questions you had on the human body (and mind). As long as it's medical, it can be pretty much anything- and I'll attempt to answer it as quickly as possible, hopefully off the top of my head.

If you have sexual relationships it may. Imagine if it was air-born! We are going to be doomed!

I am pretty sure that having sexual relationships does not spread cancer... where did you hear this information?

Why are we asking medical questions on a gaming forum? Cancer can't be spread by sexual intercourse, and cancer can be treated and cured.

Migranes, stress, beer and lack of sleep.

Wrong. Headaches will be caused by that, migraine is an annoying, hurtful illness that just appears, sometimes with symptoms like flickering sight, humming sound in your head, fear of light/sound, and many more.
I think the reason for migraines are the ateries in your brain, but I am not sure, not am I sure if there is an actual cause for migraines, as there have been little research in the area.
But no one should think that migraines are caused by beer and lack of sleep. Sometime you can wake up in the morning, being happy and having slept well through the night, then a few hours later, it feels like someone continues to squize you head... The only real good piece of advice I have, when you suffer from migraine, is to sleep. Take some painkillers, sleep, go to your docotr to get a prescription on actual migraine medication like zomig (a triptan), and use that. It will make you exstremely tired, and if you do not sleep, you will end up feeling lightheaded and dizzy.

White speckles on teeth:

A number of factors can lead to the development of white spots on teeth. Sometimes these spots are caused by nutrition, genetics, or an excessive intake of fluoride, while other times they become evident after braces have been removed. Some children also develop white spots on their teeth as they are developing.

Usually white spots that appear on the teeth are actually areas of decalcified enamel and sometimes this problem can actually lead to the deterioration of teeth. Some dentists will tell you that the first evidence of tooth decay is a white spot lesion and by this description they mean that the toothâs enamel has taken on an opaque color in the area where the cavity is beginning to form.

White spots on the teeth can appear after changes have occurred in the mineral content of a personâs teeth (which often happens childhood and leads to eventual deterioration of enamel if left untreated). White spots can also appear in connection with a condition called fluorosis, which is the result of having an excessive intake of fluoride. People who live in areas where drinking water contains a high fluoride level often encounter this problem.

Insomnia means an inability to fall asleep, though I suppose it could be caused by a fear of falling asleep!

I am super tired right now, so I will be a bad doctor and prescribe short-term benzodiazepenes. Of course if you have a long term insomnia, if you're a teen I'd put it down to hormones and reassure you it will pass, otherwise it's time to start fiddling with lifestyle and social factors!

I think the reason for migraines are the ateries in your brain, but I am not sure, not am I sure if there is an actual cause for migraines, as there have been little research in the area.

As far as I know, migraines are in fact a type of vascular headache, they are specifically due to arterial spasm. Of course it is not known what actually causes that spasm...that's a different matter entirely.

However there are other types of headaches such as cluster headaches, temporal arteritis, and the haemorrhagic headaches, and meningitis.

Important notes: If anybody gets a headache with fever + nausea and vomiting + photophobia + neck stiffness, or sudden loss of vision + jaw pain on movement, or the "worst thunderclap of a headache they ever got in their life", or a headache after getting a knock on the head and losing consciousness, just go to emergency immediately, you could save your life.

What is the best way to go to sleep???

As said, depends on the person. But some general recommendations include not hyping yourself up just before, turning out all the lights, nice quiet environment (with or without background ambient noise), not having high sugar stuff just before, or drinking loads (you'll have to get up to pee)...certain medications and foods can give you nightmares, so watch out for them!

Not directly, but there is one STI that does cause cancer: Human Papilloma Virus. It causes cervical cancer. Furthermore, Gardasil is considered to be the vaccine to HPV and therefore cervical cancer.

Also, depending on the cancer type and grade, cancer can be treated and cured. For example, a fibroadenoma of the breast is well curable, whereas glioblastoma multiforme (the worst of brain cancers) will almost certainly kill you within the year, if not three months, regardless of how you treat it.

Why are we asking medical questions on a gaming forum?

Seems this question does the rounds. Note to Parsat: you're in the Tavern. You can talk about anything in the Tavern as long as it isn't spam.

I mean, surely you'd appreciate the breadth of human communication, right, Parsat?
