In an effort to procrastinate doing everything...okay, really simply to revise my material for next semester when I start working at hospitals (but the first one sounds less dorky D

...anyway...

In an effort to revise my material, I'm inviting each and every one of you to ask any questions you had on the human body (and mind). As long as it's medical, it can be pretty much anything- and I'll attempt to answer it as quickly as possible, hopefully off the top of my head.

what's the prob if your neck hurtin a lot everytime you move it?

That would depend on whether you did something to it or it started hurting by itself.

If anybody gets a headache with fever + nausea and vomiting + photophobia + neck stiffness, or sudden loss of vision + jaw pain on movement, or the "worst thunderclap of a headache they ever got in their life", or a headache after getting a knock on the head and losing consciousness

That's just with fever and headache, instead of headache with fever...
Hmm, my headaches seem to have blurry vision, jaw pains, nausea, neck pains........ I hate migraines..

Neck stiffnes, or if you have been sitting in the same position for too long, giving your neck myoses...

Don't call me Strawp!? D:

Hiccups won't go away? Try activities that will temporarily suspend your diaphragm, such as holding your breath, or drinking a jug of water. If your hiccup involves mainly a diaphragmatic reflex this should do the trick. If it doesn't, use more willpower. If that doesn't work, find something really engrossing to distract yourself.

Sometimes the reflex is idiopathic and doesn't go away. I remember one of the contestants in So You Think You Can Dance had been hiccuping for over a dozen years. On the other hand, I haven't had a persistent hiccup for about that long.

What? Who revived this thread! We all know Strop isn't a real medical student, he cannot possibly hope to answer his questions!

lol what, Pazx, you're still affected by that April Fool's joke? Let me get the drill, we'll need to perform a total crainiectomy to see if your brain has prematurely atrophied...

I actually did have too much caffeine today~ Can that cause anything bad?

Caffeine is a stimulant which acts centrally (i.e. in the brain): as with all stimulants, the main effects are- in the short term, overdose can cause cardiac arrythmias (-> arrest), and in the long term, your cortical plasticity is reduced, which means while you'll be buzzed while on caffeine, you'll find it harder to learn stuff later down the road if you have enough.

This is one reason I do not drink coffee.

If someone were to take a gold club, and shove it up your leg, and then rip out your eyes, what would happen?

I'm not sure about half that question, Ricador, but from the sounds of it you would either end up in casualty or on a gurney.

Her's another one, but i am not sure if this is the type of question you are answering:

Is it true margarine is better for you than butter? (I personally believe butter is better, i have good reasons to ^^).

Oh, that's actually a really good question Ricador. The professional answer almost depends on who's paying you, these days.

When margarine came out, it was touted as, well, pretty much "butter lite". Also &quotoor man's butter". Some time after that, it was argued that margarine is not good for you because it has alarmingly high levels of metal ions in it which could result in toxic effects.

However, lately, the wisdom has flipped again- now butter is the evil one because of lipid and salt content! I don't know why at this point people give up on both altogether and switch to avocado...apart from the fact avocados are bloody expensive...but at least it actually lowers your cholesterol without poisoning you.

Why can migraines make you vomit?

Excessive pain can trigger nausea. I'm assuming that this is to do with sympathetic nervous system pathways, as nociception (which gives rise to pain), and pain itself are physiological stresses.

I don't think that migraines can trigger vomiting by any other pathway.
