Thought of this thread idea where I make all my life changing decisions and ideas, the shower.
I myself am not a very sporty kind of guy, I don't like most sports and find them boring and pointless, especially English Football, although most of the players and managers are not of English nationality. American Football is essentially wussy Rugby, and should be called handball not Football which seems a ridiculous sport to me. Anyway speaking on terms of sports I play regularly which are Tennis and Squash. I have been playing tennis since I was a young kid like most people and since last year have taken up Squash which is a cross between Tennis and Rugby Fives, me not being a sport/fitness freak did not realise how demanding the game was. But after frequent trips to the gym I have become more fit and have started to get quite good at Squash and enjoy it thoroughly; playing every weekend. So what sports do y'all like/play regularly? ^~^

Not into any sports; always hated the air of silly competitiveness not to mention (for us boys at least, although I'm quite convinced ladies experience their own variant of it) machismo surrounding it, and everything it entails and implies. (Then commercialism, and...)

The only thing that does interest me would be (oriental) martial arts, however I don't really see them as a sport, more like something akin to meditation-in-action, as some might call it.

Haven't really been involved with any since I was a child, between lacking the money or time for it and it being hard sometimes to find a school or class that "clicks." Back then, did kyokushinkai karate for a while, much to my enjoyment & which apparently I wasn't bad at; after, besides the odd and very brief spell at t'ai chi and pa kua and (more briefly even, and unsuccessful at least with that class) aikido, nothing really. Would like (love, rather!) to pick up kendo some day still, and besides I walked past an outdoor t'ai chi class hosted by a Chinese fellow just recently where I felt like hey why not lemme see if I can catch up with them again & ask if I may join. It somehow spoke to me.

In terms of viewing pleasure, none of these rarely if ever get shown on TV here, regretfully. Besides, well, matches... see the above.

Come to think of it & having said all that, watching sports in the right and so inspiring company can work (obviously?), and so the lady's love of watching snooker and (yes, even...!) cricket I came to share for as long as that lasted, or at least in her company. Her mind's drifted on to other things, though, and so we rarely if ever do these days. Her present sometimes-fondness of darts matches btw I can't find it in me to share, though I don't mind having a go at the odd game myself. Same with snooker, for that matter, although my pub-dwelling days are well over, so can't say either of them happen very much anymore.

Sumo wrestling for some reason she likes seeing, btw, and since it's on here sometimes, I find it um mostly entertaining to watch. If that should somehow bespeak some well-hidden physical ideals of hers, she certainly picked the wrong guy for it

You're forgetting that there already is a sport called handball, and the sport involves kicking the ball, and a great deal of lower body skill.

I personally love American Football. I play it myself, love the strategy involved in the game. I find that few sports require the know how, and the skill involved in play at so many positions.

I can't stand soccer (or football as the Europeans refer to it.) It's boring, it's just kicking the ball up and down the field. I HATE how the guys act when they get a goal.... Starting to cry and stuff, and they go nuts acting like they are the first one to do it. On top of that it tends to get rather violent.

Baseball is sheer boredom they broadcast for free.

I used to play soccer(football) and did track and field. Now I am really lazy haha. I do Quidditch though but I am not on the travelling team. Sadly it is cold for lots of the year so we cannot really play without a good chance of getting hurt.

For sports I like I would have to say American Football. I watch it every year. College basketball is OK but I don't like how they will foul on purpose. During the Olympics I will watch gymnastics, swimming, track and field primarily. Winter Olympics I don't like as much but curling is pretty darn cool.

I find baseball really boring. Most of the time it is a guy swinging and missing a ball. When he does hit the ball lots of the time someone catches it and he is out.

Xeano the reason they get so excited is because of how long and difficult of a process it was for them to finally get that goal.

As to the xeano's remark about baseball, that is your opinion, I respect your viewpoint.

As to daleks's strawman, easier qualms can be made about other sports.

It's not like it's something new to get a goal though, that's my point. Just get it, be a little happy, and not overdo it.... It's just not believable to be 100% honest.

There's no problem to me to watch any sport but baseball. I just can't stand it because the game is so dull. I used to practice tennis but I wasn't very good at it. My other favorite sports to practice are football (soccer) and volleyball. Today I'm not practicing anything but I plan to play something regularly, doesn't matter what it is. Or simply go to the gym.

I adore football/soccer but its hard to get sufficient numbers to play aa decent game. Come to think of it, its mostly street football with no offside rules, no off pitch rules. Raw. I play as the sweeper if there are too few around, or any side of a CB pairing. Can't play as a forward to save my life.

I've been swimming since I was 5 though I quit competetive. I'm a regular fish, much more sporty in the water than on land. I play tennis too, used to train and I can do squash if the right people are available.

That's how I like to play, with no rules and be with my friends having fun. Play wherever we can: on the field, on the street or the sports court.

In spite of not liking the rules of football (soccer), in the past 2 years I started liking American Football. I don't care it has over 9000 rules, it's exciting to watch a game and play it as well. Too bad my team didn't make it to the playoffs.

But, back to the recurrent confusion: the two are entirely unrelated, right.
