As the thread title suggests, this is a bit of an experiment on my part, mostly because I have no idea how well-received this idea would be. With that said, let's try out an actual board game.
Battlecon is a Fighting game involving cards, similar to games like Street Fighter or Tekken. It's primarily played as a two player game, but the rules have variants that allow for more people playing at a time (which could be a possibility for future threads if this one works out).
Before we begin, here are a few things to be cleared up first:
- Because I don't expect anyone else to be familiar with the rules, I'll be linking to a seperate post where I try my best at explaining them. You can find the rules explanation HERE. Alternatively, you can watch a comprehensive youtube video explaining the rules HERE.
- To help a bit with making this more manageable for everyone, I'll not be playing myself. Instead, I'll be moderating the game and provide information about how each round plays out.
- I'll also be limiting the choice of player characters to the 6 beginner-level characters. These are pretty straight-forward to use and should give an easy introduction into how the game plays.
- Battlecon is played by making your moves in secret. Because of this (and because of AG's lack of private messaging), moves need to be submitted via email. It doesn't really matter what email account you use, just as long as I can identify who you are. I'll be using this disposable mail account for as long as the game runs: BattleconAG@gmail.com
- Because of the need to send emails and other player decisions that need to be made mid-turn, this isn't going to be a fast game and will probably take a few days to complete. Decisions that don't need to be made in secret will be handled via posts in this thread, so I ask all participating players to check the thread atleast somewhat regularly, in case there's any decisions to be made.
- This first thread is a trial to see if this sort of format can work on AG, which is why I want to keep things simple for now. Let's focus on a maximum of two simultanous
games (with 2 players each) at most. If this thread works out fine, I'm thinking of maybe running larger games in the future.
- All non-player discussion is welcome and encouraged!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the game or how the thread will be run. If you want to sign up, I'd appreciate if you could pick out a character first, to reduce needless back and forth before the actual game begins.
And with that, let's start this little experiment and have fun!
I may join in the future once I'm 100% sure about the rules.
Yo yo I'm playing with Kenty as we speak and though it's a bit complicated at first it's definitely worth learning. Kenty posted some links up in the OP about vidyas that will teach you the game. Although, do beware, most of the videos has a nerdy guy teaching you the basics. =^)
Eligor reveals Chained Burst. It has a priority of 0.
Karin reveals Coordinated Strike. It has a priority of 5.
Karin is the Active Player!
Eligor cannot activate Burst's On Hit effect, because he is at the edge of the board.
----------
Attack Phase
Coordinated Strike has a Range of 1~2 and hits Eligor!
Karin chooses to advance Eligor using Strike's On Hit effect. Because of Coordinated, he doesn't move and takes 2 damage instead.
Because Eligor has Stun Guard 4, his Stun Guard holds and he is not stunned.
Karin hits Eligor for 2 damage. His Stun Guard of 4 holds.
-----------
Reactive Phase
Eligor decides not to pull Karin using Chained.
Chained Burst has a Range of 2~3 and hits Karin!
Karin takes 3 damage. Since she has no Stun Guard, Karen is stunned.
-------------
Recycle Phase
Karin uses Coordinated's End of Beat effect to advance Jager by 1.
Karin cannot move Jager using her unique ability, since she was stunned this beat.
Both players recycle their Attack Pairs.
Eligor reveals Retribution Aegis. It has a priority of -1.
Karin reveals Howling Claw. It has a priority of 5.
Karin is the Active Player!
----------
Attack Phase
Howling Claw has a range of 0~2 and hits Eligor.
On Hit, Howling Claw gains +2 Power because Jager is on Eligor's space. Then, Jager moves 1 space, gaining another +2 power.
Eligor has Soak 5, so he takes 1 damage. Because he has 6 Stun Guard, he is not stunned. In addition, he gains 3 Vengeance Tokens.
-----------
Reactive Phase
Before activating, Eligor moves to the left of Karin, because he was hit this beat.
Retribution Aegis has a Range of 1 and hits Karin.
Karin takes 2 damage.
-------------
Recycle Phase
At End of Beat, Karin moves Jager to the corner.
Both players recycle their Attack Pairs.
