So I was thinking that when you post a subject here.. you get a certain amount of minus AP. Instead of gaining 1 AP lose 1 to 5 or something. I know how crazy people are about AP so it would reduce the stupid threads. ALSO: if the post becomes popular for good reasons and it's a thought out thread than said user can gain some AP (ex: if a thread is -5 AP they would get +10 ap for a really good thread). But for duplicates and such(excluding newbs) mods would not reward them anything hence they lose AP and causes them to think over dumb and short topics in here.

There are way to many problems with this suggestion.

1. The number one sorce of AP income for the average AG member are profile comments. Some people like me, choose to chat over MSN or AIM with friends on this site. So why make the people in the suggestions are of the community suffer? At least they are being active. I see people with over 1000 comments and 0 forum posts.

2. A lot of people new to this site make duplicate threads because they were not around for the last thread. If you realy want to solve a problem then say more than just "This has been suggested before LOCK." Re-explain the reason why the idea was rejected.

3. I am new to AG. I wonder were the rules and guidelines are on this site. Support & Suggestion... hmmm... maybe somebody can help me out in there.

One created thread and an answer later.

Oh so that is where the rules are. Thanks = D
...Why do I have 6 AP? I had 10. wtf I am out of here.

4. This one is the most important one of all! Now I know everyone is trying to be helpful, I know you think people should lose AP because people keep making duplicate posts or bringing up dumb ideas and you are tired of telling people to stop making duplicate threads and breaking AG rules and you beleive this would make the mod's lives easier.

You are not a mod, it is nice to help explain the rules on AG but stop policing the site! The mods have a handle on the situation. If you must tell somebody that they broke a rule then leave a good explanation of why they broke the rule and take the time to answer their question as well.

I hear regular members posting how difficult the mods have it more than the mods themselves. The mods do a good job on this site and I know at times they have to make tough choices but they are not complaining, so you (regular members) should not complain about how hard they have it. The mods enjoy helping out the site.

I think its a really good idea. but if you have low AP then its more likely going to go up than down and if you maybe, 4000 AP it should be harder to get it up

I think it would actually scare members to post in here. They might leave the site then. If a duplicate thread is made, the mods can just lock it and explain why. I don't really see the point of taking AP into this.

Yeah good point. I do think it would be good if you lost AP for making a pointless or already suggested thread (excluding new members.) But I don't think you should automatically lose AP.

Expectantly if a Moderator or Admin saw it.

I beleive everyone should take a look at This page near the bottom.

Why I link it is because I know a lot of people read nothing more than the first post and sometimes the last one but if you would likely listen to reason before speaking your mind it would greatly be apreciated. Thank you.

I see some replies and I don't think half the people actually read what I said. You have nothing to worry about if it's not a duplicate thread and you read the suggested list which you should have before you post. Lemme make this clear:

YOU GAIN AP IF YOU DO A GOOD TOPIC NOT LOSE AP

This is for suggestions only. Hence I talked about a little button on thread making that specifies if it's a support question or a suggestion.

@NoName: Half your points had nothing to do with this, and made no sense. And the other half are invalid because you don't know how to read my posts.

And if people want to leave because they lose a bit of AP then I think it's better they are gone because the point of the site isn't hounding AP. So anyone who actually gave the excuse people will leave should rethink the reason you are even here. If it's to try and be cool and have lots of AP, or actually be a part of the community.

I just found this out from someone but I am not the first to think of this. This has actually been implemented on another site you might know of: Yahoo Answers. One of the most popular sites in the entire world. And correct me if I am wrong but they are doing pretty damn well.

Hell they don't even give any points back to you for a good question... you just lose it, yet people still come back.

I think just making someone lose 1 ap for coming to this thread would be good. Hell I wouldn't mind just losing 1 AP to get help support or give a good suggestion... :/
SO yeah if you have a problem with this and say it won't work... look at one of the most popular sites ever.

Klaus, the goal is to get more people on this site, not make them leave. Why make people angry and have them leave when you can find an alternative way to help.

My points are valid because I did read what you said. The mods have hard enough time finding good comments to merit under games, they are not going to go to EVERY SINGLE THREAD to make sure they are apropriate.

When no mods are online, then people with no knowlage of what's happening will see they lost points not knowing that it is possible to gain them back.

My 4th point, that had to do with more than just this thread, it had to do with what I have been seeing lately.

Too ikillnerds, the points are not a competition. They are there to show how active members are.

Back to Klaus, points 1 2 and 3 are vallid. Point 4 was a little out there I admit but point 4 did have more to do with this idea than you think.

Point 1 makes no sense because where you get your AP has no pullon this whatsoever.

And if it's a good thread it will generate replies and in such a mod will see it. Mods look at almost every thread there is, it's their job to patrol this forum int he first place. And if someone is willing to leave because of a system that may cause a little effort in making a good point than they should leave in the first place why would we want that. And it's not like AG is in a lack of users already. This would not cause an uproar nor would it cause massive amounts of users to leave. It would has 0 effect on people leaving.

No point in argueing this. We will just wait and see if this idea is accepted or rejected.
