I have been thinking of something lately, and have wondered.People often refer to certain things as addictive.Drugs, caffeine, video games, etc. but one thing I thought about is that in theory.Could you say just about anything could be addictive in life?
"the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma." Link here That is one definition of an addiction. What I mean to say is that any habit in your life could be addictive.Such as exercising, fighting, watching the T.V.,and even staring at a blank wall for several hours. What do you guys think about this?
I think addictions are normal, but the ones like smoking is just bad and should be stopped, it is really hard for a person to stop and addictions by himself/herself. All people should have at least one addiction...
Sure, I suppose in a loose form of the definition that almost everything could be considered addictive. If you stare at the wall for several hours a day and stopping causes you withdrawal pain then I guess you are addicted to staring at the wall.
Addictions are totally natural, but it's true that not only substances are addicting. People can be addicted to doing stunts, websites, talking on the phone, the uhhh, y'know the act, music, and television shows.
Take adrenaline junkies for example. The fact is that humans will have habits and addictions. It makes us humans kinda like mistakes. Sometimes addictions could be good like donating to charity addictions or something. Or they could be bad like drugs or alchohol that poison us. Most bad addictions are of substances.
I think you are taking the term too loosely. Good theory though...
Well I've seen people use definitions much looser than that before.Like the theory that humanity is viral.heres the linkSo I wouldn't really say I'm using the definition too loosely.
We all have addictions. I have addictions for Pepsi. If you don't have at least one addiction, you ain't human pal. The only thing not addictive is water. It's something you don't really think you need in life until you give it a moment's thought.
Lol not international man but I'm in a high ranks Major league gaming clan for COD4 but COD4 doesn't consume my whole life, but sometimes I do really bad, but everyone has their bad days, just cuz I do a few bad games in a row doesn't mean I stink but anyways yeah I'm a major league gamer and yes it is the dream.
Uh...well maybe not everyone's dream especially mine since unless your in tournaments it gets you no where in life.So it seems though that alot of people agree with me on this theory.
The word 'addiction' has such a negative connotation. Most people associate addiction with alcohol, drugs, broken families, abuse, etc.
But most addictions are not bad. I have a full-fledged addiction to Led Zeppelin. I don't think anyone can argue that it's harmed me. Right now I'm addicted to FIFA 2008. Yes, I could be outside or exercising, but I like the game. If it's not killing me or destroying my relationships, then there is nothing wrong with it.
