About Armor Games

Daniel McNeely
is the founder of Armor Games. Starting as Games of Gondor, it grew and with the help of beta testers, became the Armor Games we all know and love. This new site went live on January 8th 2008. Here you can play games, leave reviews, talk with people in the forums, make new friends, and much more.

General Site Rules
Forum and Commenting Rules
Game Comment Rules:
In addition to the above mentioned rules, game comments should have something important to say, and be at least a full sentence long. "Good game" or "this game ***" is considered spam, and will be deleted. Try to give the creator of the game some sort of critique that would be helpful in a sequel.

What to Do if You See Spam and What Exactly is Spam Guide
The original spam thread by Kingryan can be found here.

1. Spam Topics

If you find a topic in the Forums that is either:

A) A Topic created just for people to spam in
B) A topic that has turned into spam.

Please don't tell the person that the topic is spam. This just makes things worse and you end up with 10+ people spamming by telling the Original poster that it is spam.

If you are the first person to see this thread, then you can tell them that it is spam, and then flag the original comment.

However, if someone has already posted a comment like this, just flag the original comment and leave it at that. As I said before, don't tell them that the topic is spam because then you will just be spamming yourself.

Remember...Don't Post - Just Flag

Spam to Look For:
A) People continuously saying that the topic is spam.
B) A topic where the original poster has not explained properly what the topic is about.
C) If the topic is title something like Spam Here or Only Spammers Here (No Mods).
D) If the original message is SpamSpamSpam or something similar.

2. Spam in a Forum Topic
If you see that someone has spammed in a forum topic (such as The Guess the Picture Game or Destroy BOB) then just flag the comment. Don't tell them that it is spam, just flag it so that a mod can see it and delete it when they get the chance. That way no extra fuss is made.

Spam to Look For:
A) Comments like wtf?, idk or I don't know, ya mum, wow, kinda easy, etc...
B) Comments that don't have anything to do with the game such as I think it is a piece of cheese in Destroy BOB - You get the picture!

3. Spamming under Games
If you see someone who has spammed under a game by saying Good or 10/10 or bad, etc, then once again just flag the comment. Every comment that you flag is shown to the mods and then they can delete it or take further action when they are online.
Don't tell someone off on their page, as this can just make the situation worse.

Spam to Look For:
A) Things like Good or 10/10 or bad - Basically a comment that doesn't explain what a user likes or doesn't like about the game.
B) Copied Merit Comments - If you see these it may be best to alert a mod as well as flagging it.
C) Repeated comments - I once saw a comment repeated four times one after the other.
D) Comment that are reposted on different games. For example if someone wrote about how the game had good graphics and cool sounds (Approx 2-3 lines) and then they copied that and posted it on another game. This is a sneakier way of spamming that is harder to detect.

4. Spamming on Profiles
Once again, if you see people who have spammed on either their own or someone else's Profiles, then flag the comment and leave it at that. If it is a lot, then collect links for the pages where they have spammed and post them on their page with a detailed explanation.

Spam to Look For:
A) Comments such as hello, hi, you're cool, single letters such as A, B, C.
B) Comments that have been repeated on lots of different profiles.

5. What to do in a BIG Emergency
If you find something that is very bad spamming or very explicit then flag the comment and alert a mod immediately. This includes things like Pornography, excessive swearing and bad racist or sexist comments.

6. What Not To Do
-Don't tell the spammer that they are spamming.
-Don't just tell a mod that someone is spamming; Give links and an explanation.
-Don't get into an argument with the spammer.
-Don't spam yourself!

SHOPS
There is a Group on ArmorGames called SHOPS. This stands for the Spammer and Hacker Organisation Prevention Society. It has a form that you can fill out to report Spammers. The Mods visit this page often so it is reasonably helpful. [I Myself am a SHOPS Member from WAY back when you had to be a member to report people. This idea was taken out a while back!] You can use this if you want to.

The Golden Rule: Don't retaliate, just FLAG the comment.
By flagging comment you are helping the mods out a lot. It makes dealing with spam very easy for them.

You can set a pixel limitation, but say someone decided they wanted to mess with that pixel limitation. Let's say the limit was 900 pixels. Instead of creating a 30x30 square for their signature, they could stack the pixels on top of each other and create a long 900x1 block and fill up most of the page.

You are not understanding what I am saying.

The square that a signature can occupy can be given a finite space

I'm unsure of how to express it any clearer. It's not something that counts how many pixels an image in a signature takes up, it is a height and width limitation on the entire signature. Controlled by programming, not by whether or not users obey the limitation rules.

Wouldn't an exact height and width limitation ruin the whole point of image signatures? It would basically be just like having another armatar, but one with your name on it; except your username already appears next to your armatar, so it would really only be a futile bandwidth-hog.

How would it...? Ruin the point? Be like an armatar? What the who...

... No, I don't understand what you mean. At all. I've seen it work just fine on a few other forums.

Ernie, he is saying that if you code it correctly, then you could not have an extended signature.

Also, it would not be a set size for each signature. It means it could be no larger than X.

Yay for people understanding~

=941156">This post on another forum demonstrates it nicely. A user who wants to have a ton of stuff in their signature, and has it, but only so much of it is displayed.
Another forum I know isn't kind enough to give scrollbars - if it's over the size limit, it just gets cut off.

I understood it from the beginning, but what I didn't understand was why we would ever implement such a useless and silly feature into the site.

If we were allowed to create our own signature, people would inevitably create inappropriate ones, and the only way to get rid of it would be to ban the user, unless they're cooperative enough to change it, and since most users who create inappropriate content aren't, more often then not it will end up in a ban, and even if they don't put up any inappropriate content, it would still just be like having a regular old avatar on the forums, and it would ruin the point of having an armatar, because if everybody could choose their signature, they'd probably end up choosing some random image, and that would defeat the purpose of armatars, because people would just distinguish people from their signatures at a certain point and ignore their armatars, because while the armatar selection is limited, the signature selection would not be, and it would make people forget about the whole purpose of having armatars in the first place, and they would see signatures as their avatars rather than as their signatures, especially if we have a bandwidth limit that makes every signature the same size, it would have the appearance more of an avatar than of a signature.

Wow, that is one long run-on sentence. Looks like you've repeated yourself quite a bit.

And I agree, a signature wouldn't really be necessary if we already have armatars.

Keep the armatars. If you were able to upload your own picture, Then there wouldnt be a reason for armatars. Pick one or the other not both. And I dont think it is right, how low the AP gain is, and the unfairness because the ranks are worth so much AP. I mean, It is acheivable, but It takes such a long time. Most of the people with alot of AP registered 2 years ago. Merits should also be checked. I havent seen anyone get a merit for a comment on games for a while. Most of them are on the forums. The mods should check up on that.

It's ridiculous. I swear that every time someone suggests this forum does something that EVERY OTHER FORUM DOES people argue against it saying how it would never work.

Otherwise the people who suggested it would wonder why it wasn't being added to the site, because nobody criticized it, so they thought it was a perfect suggestion.

Ernie, are you trying to go for a record on "Worlds longest run-on sentence?"

I agree, and would only add that 'armatars' are like AG's signature.

Other forums are probably the reason a lot of us are here instead of there. I think more original ideas are the ones AG's looking for.

Otherwise the people who suggested it would wonder why it wasn't being added to the site, because nobody criticized it, so they thought it was a perfect suggestion.

I agree, we all have ideas and opinions and some of may come up with similar ones.
Ideas that other forums do shouldn't be rubber stamped onto every other forum site.
I know that's isn't what you're saying, I just wanted to continue my thought.

Speaking of thoughts, I have one. AG is very generous with giving us a nice long column for our ABOUT section of our profile page.

I think it would be nice if we could expand the width, since after the box showing our signature, armatar and whatever web sites and email addresses we share, there's a lovely blank column just sitting there, doing nothing.

I have a gut feeling in my gut (redundancy) that says almost all of these suggestions may be added in version three.. So the suggestions that may be considered or added here (or added to the list of common suggestions) will be implemented in the new site. Can not wait! :P

Freak, you are right. Now that I am back. I have been working on updating stickies a bit. I have some rough copies still in .doc format. But, going through this jumbled mess is a pill.
