you cannot say who is the best guitarist when there are so many different styles of guitar. like jimmy hendrix was the king of blue's. micheal angelo batio is the fastest guitarist who ever lived. carlos santanna isnt the best spanish guitarist but hes really good. and anyone who sais slash or tom merello have to clue about real guitarists and only know there names because they were on guitar hero.
and p.s. bucket head can smash tom merellos head in with numchucks.
@delossantosj This is the original best guitarist thread. Besides that obviously there is no best guitarist, but you can always specify which type of guitarist your talking about...so this thread need not be locked...
Ok there are so many guitarists out there im going to try and break this down. The one and only true god of guitar and almighty greatest player is Jimi Hendrix but another great player that many think is great is Eric Clapton. Thoose two are probly the two best. But in this age of the 21st centuary i say either Buckethead or Jack White is the best so far.
Jack White? Seriously, I play better than him. Haha, no offense, but just not that good. I would say the best somewhat modern day guitarist is....ummmm......well I don't really have one, but the best duo would be the two guys from Protest the Hero. They play great riffs, and sound great together.

As for jack white, i don't see it either, but Guitar magazine has him waaaaaaay up their on their guitar god radar. So apparently he's good, don't know where...or when he has been but someone thinks so.
