Many of you may not be familiar with the F-Zero series. F-Zero is a racing game that got its start on the Super Nintendo. Opponents would race each other at super high speeds at roughly 500 km/h, and in later games, 1000 km/h. Not only did F-Zero show off the capabilities of the Super Nintendo, but it introduced an epic soundtrack that really got the blood pumping. The epic music may have gotten blood pumping, but the difficulty would bring your blood to a boil.
I don't expect too many people here to have played any of the F-Zero games, but I feel like venting some steam.
I remember playing both F-Zero (SNES) and F-Zero X (N64) quite a few times as a kid, but I never actually owned the games. I wasn't very good, but the fast paced game play and the epic soundtrack was permanently engrained in my young mind. When I heard there was a new F-Zero game coming out for the GameCube, my head almost exploded. I was there to pick up my copy of F-Zero GX the day it came out.
Despite the God awful voice acting and tacky as hell story mode, F-Zero did not disappoint. It was beautiful, fast paced, and difficult. There are two modes, Grand Prix mode and Story mode.
Casual gamers can easily enjoy F-Zero GX. Unlocking all the Grand Prix courses may be challenging, but it's doable with a little elbow grease. However, those who want to unlock every last racer has to beat all 9 chapters of the Story mode an Very Hard difficulty, and playing the Story mode on Very Hard should ONLY be reserved for the most hardcore fans, or those who love subjecting themselves to frustration and pain!
I decided to dust off my GameCube, clear what progress I have made from my memory card, and start F-Zero GX from scratch. I've gotten further than I have as a kid, but I'm not done yet. Currently, I am stuck on the 7th chapter of the Story mode.
The 7th Chapter has me racing against the normal number of racers, 30, on a fairly challenging course. What really makes the Chapter so difficult is that the GAME CHEATS. There are two racers who are constantly in 1st and 2nd place. Not only that, but there seems to be a magnet stuck to your machine. Every car wants to bump into you and a few attack you with deadly precision. After replaying this race over and over for 3 hours, I believe I must be crazy to subject myself to so much frustration. Luckily, Chapter 7 is said to be the most difficult chapter. I really hope so. I really do.
Anyway, I just needed to vent, as well as praise such an amazing game. I hope there are some other F-Zero fans on here, but if not, I'll be back to vent some more if need be.
i only played f-zore on the SNES. i know ive played it for months whit all my friends. but i don't remember much of it anymore. maybe i'll gonna play it whit a emulator soon. might be fun.
