Assassin's Creed III will be coming out soon, and I'm dying to know where George Washington will stand in the game.
It is stated in the Wiki (and strongly applied) that Washington is an associate to Connor. This means Washington probably isn't a Templar. However, George Washington was a Freemason.
You may be asking, "Washington was a Freemason? What does that have to do with anything?" The Freemasons link their heritage to the Knights Templar.
What role will Freemasonry play in ACIII? Will George Washington be a Templar? Will the Freemasons be considered a group that split from the Knights Templar (and eventually rivaled the Templar organization)? Perhaps Washington will never have actually been a Mason (his association with the Freemasons being a rumor)? They could always pretend there was never a rumor about Freemasonry and ignore it all together, but I highly doubt that will be the case. I'm sure some explanation will be given at some point in time.
Now, a lot of people who play the game have decided that the Assassin's are the good guys and that the Templars are the bad ones. I'm hoping ACIII will force players to truly question their alliance. I would love it if the fan base was split into Assassins and Templars, rather than everyone aligning themselves with the Assassins.
I really don't think Washington will be an enemy for 2 reasons.
1 Georgo Washington was a bluecoat. In every trailer/gameplay so far you only fought redcoats. So if George Washington will be playing a enemy or Templar or anything you would have to assassinate him which brings me to reason 2.
Assassins Creed is trying to be as historic accurate as possible. So if u would assassinate George Washington because he was a Templar or Freemason or whatever it would be very very historical inaccurate. And if you have to assassinate him Ubisoft would have to create a whole story for what happened between Conners and Desmond's time because they said there will be more Desmond in ACIII.
if you have to assassinate him Ubisoft would have to create a whole story for what happened between Conners and Desmond's time
sounds like AC3.2 then. the next game in the making. they most likely want to stay whit this story as long as possible again. so that they can milk it dry.
I doubt Washington will be a Templar in the game, but it's not impossible. You won't necisarily have to assassinate him if he is.
Even though Ubisoft wants to remain as accurate to history as possible, they're willing to make a few changes.
In Assassin's Creed (1), Desmond states that all the men Altiar killed died during different years. However, it appeared as if Altiar killed all these men within the same year, contradicting history. Warren states that it's quite possible that history has been rewritten by the Templars.
The Freemason emblem loosely resembled the Assassin Brotherhood emblem. There is not enough evidence to dictate whether this is coincidental or not. The Freemasons very well could be enemies of the Templars. But, again, this contradicts reality. The Freemasons often talk of their Templar roots, and they idolize these men.
I'll tell you what I know as far as I understand, as well as my theory.
------
There's a group called De Molay. It is open to anyone younger than 21. Despite being somewhat active for a few months, I still have no idea what De Molay's purpose is. It's purpose seemed to revolve around raising money so you could go to state events, where everyone around the state would gather and do something fun (such as organize a soccer competition). It was, from what anyone could plainly observe, about getting together and helping you fellow brothers and sisters out. However, there were certain members who were given the title "officers". They were allowed to know secrets, none of which I am aware of.
Before each meeting of De Molay, we would perform a small ritual of sorts. I never studied it, so I never learned how to do it properly. Our chapter was almost extinct (3/4 members), so we often skipped the ritual and jumped straight to the meeting. Why is the ritual important? The ritual is supposed to mirror the one used by today's Freemason's.
To join the Freemasons, you must at least be 21 years old. De Molay is like Jr. Freemasonry.
During a state event (I only went to 2, and quickly became a no-show and stopped going to meetings), there was a performance put on by a few of the members. It celebrated Jacques de Molay.
In 1314, the Templars were said to be conspiring against the Church. Jacques de Molay spoke in favor of the order, and was burned to death. This marks the end of the Templar Knights as we know of it. De Molay is considered a martyr to everyone within today's organization (which was named after him).
If you play Assassin's Creed Revelation's Multiplayer, you will unlock files as you level up. One of these files talks about Jacques de Molay. According to the files found within the AC game, Jacques allowed himself to get captures, and allowed himself to die so that he may convince the world that the Templars were disbanded. This was a front to allow the Templars to work in the shadows.
I believe the Freemasons look at Jacques de Molay as a martyr to be praised (at least, that's how it was in the group De Molay). This is why I'm so confused. Freemasonry is said to have its roots in the Knights Templar.
So here's what I think about George Washington and the Freemasons in Assassin's Creed. I believe one of two things happened.
One, After Jacques de Molay was killed, the order branched into two directions. Many of the Templars continued to operate in secrecy (as confirmed in AC:R). Some of the other Templars, on the other hand, formed their own secret group, called the Freemasons. The Freemasons could either have been Templar traitors, or they could have merely changed their views over time until they eventually came at odds with the Templars. The freemasons may or may not necisarily be aligned with the Assassin order. There may or may not be some form of conflict between the Assassins and Masons. (If the Freemasons are allied with the Assassins, not only was George Washington a Mason, but so is George Bush! lol)
Another theory is that the Freemasons were hijacked by the Templar order. The Freemasons could have been rivals with the Templars until recently in history, in which the Templars infiltrated the Freemasons and transformed it into a "lesser" Templar order.
I doubt he's Templar, as he's a Rebel and he's an aid to the player. Plus, old Washy won't kill other Templars, which would mean those massive battles wouldn't take place. They did, ergo, he's friendly.
