it's just what your used to.
if you got a ps3 your used to ps3 controller and like it more.
and x360 owners like the x360 better.

when i switched i had to figure out the button symbols most. the controlling itself was the same.

I prefer the 360 controller but I play PS3 more and that is why I now have a PS360 controller haha. I just thing the xbox controller is more comfortable, just feels nice. Guess its all just preference and what you know.

Being fair? Pretty much the same layout. It's more what do you like in a controller. Do you like it light? If so, the PS3 controller is probably for you. If you like to have a weight in your han then you'll prefer Xbox 360. I've always prefferred 360 simply because of it working with the PC controls well.

I will allow this thread since it's specifically about controllers.

I think it's been established that the better controller is purely one's personal preference, so I won't really go into which kind of people would like which controller. Anyway, I think credop nailed it in only a few sentences.

I prefer the 360 controller myself. The joysticks have more tension and the controller itself is heavier. I also prefer the shape of the 360 controller as well. Overall, it just feels more solid.

The D-Pad on the xbox is generally used as extra buttons used to swap items/weapons, pull up certain displays, and pretty much everything but movement. However, there are a few games in which you can move your character around using the D-Pad, and sometimes the D-Pad is more preferable. For me, I prefer using the D-Pad when it comes to 2D games and games in which your character moves along a grid. When it comes to using the D-Pad for movement, I do prefer the PS controller. But, it's really not a big deal. The only 2 games I can think of off the top of my head in which I use the D-Pad for movement is Catherine and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (port).
