Welcome to the newest contest on ArmorGames!

This is the new and improved version of both the Periodic Poetry Contest and the Haiku Contest. From this point out, both contests will be combined into one massive contest for everyone to enjoy! And as such, each user is allowed to enter is both contests with separate entries if they so desire, effectively doubling the odds of winning.
Each contest (One being general poetry and the other exclusively haiku) will have one winner every month. Every month, two winners (one from each contest shall be chosen and receive a merit for all their hard work. Show it off to your friends, gloat about it to your enemies! Tell your parents about it and confuse them! It's a win-win-win-win-win scenario, folks.

Rules

General Poetry Contest:
- It must fit the theme if the month (same theme as the Haiku Contest).
- It must be submitted by the deadline.
- It cannot have inappropriate language in it.
- It cannot be stolen (if you plagiarize, we will find you).
- The poem must be created for this contest
- A user cannot win twice in a row (though everyone is welcome to submit every month!)
- Only one submission per user will be accepted

Once a month a winner will be chosen from all the received entries. To begin, the Moderation/Administration Team will act as judges and choose winners. Subject to change depending on how well things go.
The winner will then make a comment on the ContestWinners profile to receive a merit.

Haiku Contest
"A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons."
Well, that said, here are the rules:
- It must fit the theme of the month (same as General Poetry Contest)
-The haiku must be original (no plagiarizing)!
- It must be submitted before the deadline
- It must be created for the contest (no using works previously written)
- One submission per user
- The same user cannot win twice in a row (but they are welcome to submit!)

Once a month a winner will be chosen from all the received entries. To begin, the Moderation/Administration Team will act as judges and choose winners. Subject to change depending on how well things go.
The winner will then make a post on the ContestWinners profile to receive a merit.
(Original idea and itemized rules by Maverick4, modified by Devoidless)
First Themes
The first themes to kick off this contest shall be:
- The theme for the General Poetry contest this run is "Touch of Truth".

- The theme for the Haiku contest is "Broken Bond".
Submitting an entry
Since there are two separate contests, users are required to mention in the post which contest they wish to use the entry for. Any entry without this is subject to not being entered into either contest.
Examples of how to clarify which contest an entry is for:
-

This poem is for the General Poetry contest

-
-This is for the Haiku contest

-
I'd like to enter this for the General Poetry/Haiku contest

Remember, each user is allowed to join both contests!

Alright! Looking forward to seeing what you all can create! Good luck, and have fun with it!

I'll start working on it! I may not be the greatest poem craftsman, but I enjoy making them anyway

Awesome! Out of curiosity, are the mods judging or has the judge just not been decided upon? By the way Voidy, the link you posted on the old Periodic Poetry contest is broken.

Glad to see you are excited for it! And I'll go look into that right now. Thanks much.

For now mods and admins. This:

To begin, the Moderation/Administration Team will act as judges and choose winners.

Yeah.. Did you read it? xD

Anyways, I'll try and get my poems in ASAP. I don't think I'm exactly great at creating them, but meh.

@HUA7XFan122396:

Or type it out in Word (or a similar word processor) and paste it here. As you said, please make sure to label it with what contest you are submitting it for. Thanks!

ok, then... This entry is for the Haiku Contest:

White van
At the candy store
Children walking.

(btw Haiku's don't have to be about nature or 5,7,5 syllable pattern) (unless for this contest specifically you only accept traditional Haiku's, then I would have to rewrite mine.)

It has to be a 5-7-5 syllable pattern and it has to fit the current theme.

You sure it has to be 5-7-5, because it fits the theme, i think.

Trust me on this when I tell you... I'm sure.

Also the theme is:
"Broken Bond".

Yes, the broken bond is: The children are walking away from the candy store, the place they really want to go, because if they don't ... you know what happens

Yeah I read it, just didn't register that little bit for some reason.

And can we leave the decisions on the validity of an entry up to the judges? Please and thanks.

*sigh* I'll take care of this..

So..ignoring the fact that you didn't follow the general guideline for Haikus (5-7-5 pattern)...you start by establishing a white van. Nothing more. You don't state the purpose of this van or what it looks like other than white. The reader then has no choice than to assume it is a blank white van. Your next line "at the candy store" can either mean that that is the location of the van, or where the children are walking around at. There is nothing at all that even hints that the children are walking away from the store, or that the van has anything to do with the haiku.

@Devoid
So, a person can submit a haiku and have it go for both contests?
Just want to make sure I'm reading it correctly

Also..couldn't this potentially get quite..messy...due to both contests on one thread and all?

@HUAX7X:
As mentioned, the format haiku is 5 syllables for the first verse, 7 syllables for the second verse and 5 syllables again for the last verse. Otherwise, it is not a haiku.

@pangtongshu
No, haiku belong in their own separate category of Haiku. Everything else (free verse, limerick, etc..) goes in the General Poetry contest.
I think I know which line in the rules might of been confusing, but it's not much of an issue.
In regard to it getting messy, I've got it handled. There is a reason I stated that contestants must begin with a label stating which contest they are entering. Trust me, I got it.

@All
As stated, please leave all corrections and such to the current judge(s). I/We will be sure to handle all issues and questions. Thanks!
