Welcome to the newest contest on ArmorGames!

This is the new and improved version of both the Periodic Poetry Contest and the Haiku Contest. From this point out, both contests will be combined into one massive contest for everyone to enjoy! And as such, each user is allowed to enter is both contests with separate entries if they so desire, effectively doubling the odds of winning.
Each contest (One being general poetry and the other exclusively haiku) will have one winner every month. Every month, two winners (one from each contest shall be chosen and receive a merit for all their hard work. Show it off to your friends, gloat about it to your enemies! Tell your parents about it and confuse them! It's a win-win-win-win-win scenario, folks.

Rules

General Poetry Contest:
- It must fit the theme if the month (same theme as the Haiku Contest).
- It must be submitted by the deadline.
- It cannot have inappropriate language in it.
- It cannot be stolen (if you plagiarize, we will find you).
- The poem must be created for this contest
- A user cannot win twice in a row (though everyone is welcome to submit every month!)
- Only one submission per user will be accepted

Once a month a winner will be chosen from all the received entries. To begin, the Moderation/Administration Team will act as judges and choose winners. Subject to change depending on how well things go.
The winner will then make a comment on the ContestWinners profile to receive a merit.

Haiku Contest
"A Haiku is a Japanese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons."
Well, that said, here are the rules:
- It must fit the theme of the month (same as General Poetry Contest)
-The haiku must be original (no plagiarizing)!
- It must be submitted before the deadline
- It must be created for the contest (no using works previously written)
- One submission per user
- The same user cannot win twice in a row (but they are welcome to submit!)

Once a month a winner will be chosen from all the received entries. To begin, the Moderation/Administration Team will act as judges and choose winners. Subject to change depending on how well things go.
The winner will then make a post on the ContestWinners profile to receive a merit.
(Original idea and itemized rules by Maverick4, modified by Devoidless)
First Themes
The first themes to kick off this contest shall be:
- The theme for the General Poetry contest this run is "Touch of Truth".

- The theme for the Haiku contest is "Broken Bond".
Submitting an entry
Since there are two separate contests, users are required to mention in the post which contest they wish to use the entry for. Any entry without this is subject to not being entered into either contest.
Examples of how to clarify which contest an entry is for:
-

This poem is for the General Poetry contest

-
-This is for the Haiku contest

-
I'd like to enter this for the General Poetry/Haiku contest

Remember, each user is allowed to join both contests!

Alright! Looking forward to seeing what you all can create! Good luck, and have fun with it!

No offense, but please have a comprehension of my poetry before trying to use it to back up what you are saying. I take issue with this sentence because of its attempt to degrade my haiku as if I am a hypocrite to what I am saying, but I can safely say that I leave proficient clues as to why death is cruel

Calm down. And now, kindly shut up. For myself, Gantic's reasoning is perfectly sound, because I view poetry along the same lines. But, not only poetry, writing as well.

Saying someone should have a "comprehension of my poetry" is extremely arrogant to the point of disbelief. That's like saying no one is fit to judge your poems except for you. Poetry is a medium to evoke emotion and thought, but it is also there for interpretation.

As for what is to be done, I am some what divided on the matter. I do believe that Gantic was right in removing the merrits when he did, participation had been slipping, judges had been inconsistent (I being one of them in a long line of madness). However, this new format seems to have been thrown together haphazardly. Now, I appreciate the fact that life is complicated and interferes with the best laid plans, paying for education, food, and rent isn't cheap, especially when it's on your own dollar.

I say we keep things moving and adjust as time goes on. The worst case senario would be to stop, but if stopping allowed for better organization, then I wouldn't be against it. The AG community these days doesn't possess the same level of raw talent and skill from back when I was more active. That isn't saying there aren't talented people, but there's a different quality to it, this is especially noticable in AMW.

On a completely personal note I think I'll start posting in my old thread, if only to revive my writing habits, seeing as the past year has gotten me nowhere.

Floors, Haiku Contest:

The Tower of Life
The Tower of Life,
Its steps winding upward,
Floors, to be conquered.

Floors, Poetry Contest:

Lonely World
Darkness, in the lonely house,
My footsteps, falling on the wooden planks.
The silence hinting at the worse.

The world howls at my existence,
The floorboards moan their ghastly song,
When I let the pain out.

Ice in my once-warm heart,
The floor collapses beneath me,
For it cannot hold on anymore.

Neither can I.

I understand it comes off as arrogant..but my point is that he tried to use my poetry as a way to show me as a hypocrite, and missed that mark completely.

I have no qualms about someone interpreting my poetry differently than I anticipated, more the power to whomever does so! There is a difference, however, between interpreting it differently and miscomprehension

Ding! The doors open;
People come and people go,
Some stay where they are.

Floors? Seriously?

I might add that I am a little disappointed with how things went, too. First the contest is frozen for so long for no apparent reason ("Judging is made, posting asap!"), and when it's finally up, there's this discussion about the judging.
Looks like you bit off more than you could chew. But I'm in no place to tell you how to do things, just... take note of my opinion.

-----
Anyway, here's my Haiku for what it's worth:

Got a promotion,
Up up to floor five hundred;
Embrace cold darkness.

After a bit of discussion, theme may change to Colors. There's still plenty of time left. Several users have submitted entries entries, but if no one has reason to disagree, then the theme will change.

I'll say stick with it. An odd theme makes participants be creative. As you saw last round, most of the entries were similar because the theme was vibrant and active. When it's something commonplace, it's more of a challenge.

Heart of Darkness?

Don't know that. Could I have made a double reference?... Anyway, sorry, no cookie for you

The current theme is Floors, but it may change to Colors.

I personally think the theme should not be changed and writers should prove themselves to be creative.

I challenge you! (yes you)
