I am a christian, i and i strongly belive in my lord jesus christ, and i also belive that if you belive in him and except him as your savior, u will go to heaven. and i also believe that he created the world, not the big bang, or that we came from stupid apes.
Good point, It's a typical christian blinkered view of "religion". I am an atheist myself and find it very ammusing sometimes in these threads that crop up time and time again, where a christian is so pro god and religion but only their own. They are stating "of course god exists and is allmighty....oh they other religions that believe in god also, well they are idiots!" The irony is fantastic.
Honestly i find it irnonic that you think this, first, we don't call them idiots we thing their wrong, but thats becasue we can't both be right. Second it should be theism vs. atheism in fact this thread is a repeat of is God real basicaly.
I hate people who say this. There is, is not, a god. Prove it? How does an idiot know he is stupid? He doesn't. You're wrong, I'm right? How about, we will see when we die? No one cares about your religion, and people hate it when you try to force it on them. If some one is interested in your religion, they will ask you. Until then, keep your faith to yourself.
Note: You, Your is not referring to anyone here, just in general to anyone who is religious.
Has this quote popped up yet "Religion is the opiate of the people... The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo." Karl Marx. religion is used to help the masses understand and interprete the worls arounf them in a way they can understand. In Marx's day opium was given to children to keep them quiet and was used to give th euser a sence of fantasy.
As inevitable as Godwin's law, I'm sure it must have popped up here or on another religion thread. Although, in a world right now where people are more obsessed with celebrities, environmentalism, television, etc. than with religion, I'm not sure it relates entirely to today.
Indeed. When Marx wrote that he was reffering to the uneducated working class population, when religion was far more important than it is today. Plus Marx was trying to say they were being blinded by religion as to how they were being exploited as a class, not nescessarily because it offered easy answers to the inexplicable.

Um, lets see, honestly i don't care if you hate it because i would make if 1 out of ten poeple listen to me it's worth it. You know why we tell you (no one forces it on you, name m the last time someone held you at gunpoint and said BELIEVE) becasue we think if you don't you go to hell.
Well, I am an atheist and am entitled for my beliefs, or non beliefs. ------------------------------------------------------ So here goes nothing:
For christians, Jews, and or any other religion concerning a 'higher power'.
Do you 'believe' in God?--Yes?--Good!
That means he is not 'real' He is of a figment of imagination. For do you 'believe' that humans or animals exist? No? Good, for you don't have to they are real. To believe: To feel sure, or to accept something as true.
Why accept this? What difference does it make in life? Or even in after life? Do we go to hell if we don't believe in God? Do we perish in the underworld for eternity? If so-- Is there an underworld/ hell? Where is it located? Are you sure there is one? How would you know? Did someone tell you? Did God tell you?
How bout this?
God maybe real, but what is it? I say 'it' because no one knows what or whom God is. I will believe once, for certain, God is identified.
One last thing. Where is heaven? What makes it so special? What's in it?
Um, lets see, honestly i don't care if you hate it because i would make if 1 out of ten poeple listen to me it's worth it. You know why we tell you (no one forces it on you, name m the last time someone held you at gunpoint and said BELIEVE) becasue we think if you don't you go to hell.
First, This is exactly what I'm talking about. People who push their religion on others. In response, yes, you are putting a gun to some one's head when you tell them to believe in your god or go to hell. Hell would be the gun.
I am kindof just jumping into this conversation after reading a bit and...
This is an old topic. And like several people have said, there is really no way to prove one way or another. There are stories in the bible, stories in our world that people say is god's work etc, but for many that isn't proof enough.
I am not really on either side. I don't believe in a christian god, or a god in any mainstream religion. I am Unitarian Universalist and i have made up my own religion that works for me. I don't believe in hell. I believe in some form of reincarnation... I am tolarant of other's beliefs. (or i try to be, which is usually the truth for anyone who says they are tolarant). god (if there is such a thing, or being, or spirit, or whatever) probably isn't there to be debated over. studying several religions (as we unitarian universalists do) it seems to me that god in those religions is something to give people hope, and something to center their lives on.
Do you believe in atheism? Good! That means that the lack of a God is just a figment of imagination. Do you believe in Newton's First Law of Motion? Good! That means that it's just a figment of imagination. It is possible to believe true things and to believe false things, but belief in something does not impact its truthfulness.
Who told you there isn't a God? Are you sure there isn't? Why accept it? What difference does it make? If there is a God, what happens?
Your statements have made me think, but the thought process was quite instantaneous and quite negative, to put it in a nice way.

ER not really, also i would bet all the money in the world atheism is more pushed on people than any religion. You've been telling us all how stupid we are yet have we tried to convert you. Also I'm not pushing, your just a bit touchy and insecure about all of this. Pushy would come right out be like hey listen to me, and if you say no i say F*** you. The way i do it? I say something about it every once in a while and if you want me to back off i do.
