In the past 400 years it seem that the middle east armies as been, well, less then effective. The glorius army of the past, which defeated armies much larger and blow there enemies to there knees, cant even handle local uprisings.
Just a short list for examples: Eygept -vs- Yemens rebels Iraq -vs- huge mobs of Iranians kids All the arabic nations -vs- Israel
I found some debates on this subject on the interweb, but i want to hear your ideas.
Except Afghanistan. The inhabitants have held out against several leading superpowers of its time since the Classical Era: Rome, Russia, Great Britain, and soon-to-be the USA (intervention has failed several times).
Afghans aint arabs. The main reason for never having a victory now a days is that they have reverted to their past selves. With the advent of Islam, came a unity in arabia which was never seen Before. For they are people divided in clans and families from the dawn of time. Even now badouin has a saying which goes like this
"Me againstmy brothers,Me and my brothers against my cousins, Me my cousins against the clan and my clan against the world." This thing is called "Hamiya" in Arabic and the nearest englsh translation will be, loyalt to ones family or clan. This division is the reason why Arabs are losing and it was the reason we lost in 1857 against brits.
In many of the arabic armies, most of the high herirchey are friends and family of the ruling class, rather then by skills.
Also, i read in some site that another theory say that officers tend to keep thier "secrets" to themselves, thier tactics and knowldegh, so they will gain power by it, by being the best in that job, rather then teaching others.
Even more, inside the ranks of the arab armies there was this massive rivalrt over prestige and power. Not to mentio the Palestinian militia, who literalu fought each other in some occasions.
Only in the peace agreement, something like 7 years later, they got Sinai back. Not in war. Israel actualy gained lands after the war. A step into Africa AKA eygept herself. Artilary bombed Damascus.
I mean for god sake, 2 nations, attacking together, in suprise, with like 7 other countries sending troops and money, Cant beat Israel?
I dont want to brag, but Israel did better in 1967. Against 3 countries.
The point is - they didnt did well in the war. Terrible will be more accurate. In Syria, the valley of tears, 34 Israeli Tanks slaughtering 344 enemy tanks. Is that doing well?
