Fight the New Drug on Facebook

This group is dedicated to the fight against what they claim to be a new kind of drug. or what is more commonly referred to as pornography.

The group states that they use science to fight against this drug (which they equate to alcohol and drug addictions) is a danger to society and must be fought against.

Thoughts?

Until the research is linked in, that blog post is hardly a reliable source of information. A blog post on some mail-in magazine dumbed-down for the masses is not where I'd go to for reliable news.
Furthermore! The author of that article is -far- from reliable. He, as far as I can tell, has not published any papers on his research or discoveries. He merely pens books that go against the flow. That's not actual research backed up by other professionals in his field. It's just some schmuck trying to make a buck by saying "Listen! All those other doctors are lying to you! Read my book to find out the 'truth'!"

true. i was just giving it as an example though. thing is what i read was on the newspaper and in hebrew. i guess ill try searching for some more scientific link when i have the time but that link really wasnt the biggest point of what i said back there.

Something like that is rather hard to say, since most people aren't as open as to say they watch porn.

It's not really hard to say and that point that many aren't coming forth with what they do only reinforces what I was making.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with trying to eradicate porn. It is an addiction.

Porn in general isn't an addition. Some people may take watching porn to that point. What I can't seem to find is reliable data showing that this is such a prevalent problem that it would require the eradication of porn to help the masses.

hmmmm never heard it presented this way, very interesting.
I think it is actually too bad that something as "simple" and "natural" as this gets abused to the extent where it hurts others... a sad world we live in.

1. You can become addicted to anything.
2. Pornography does not lead to sexual thought. Sexual thought leads to pornography.

As for this particular group, it should be disregarded entirely because it's backed by extremely misleading and very biased information. That isn't to mention the fact that it's almost entirely based upon correlative research (correlation =/= causation) yet they claim otherwise, and it's riddled with personal sob stories designed to get your attention. And one of the most disgusting atrocities committed by this group was the utilization of these sob stories to sell products in their name. Most of you summed up whatever is left behind.

What I can't seem to find is reliable data showing that this is such a prevalent problem that it would require the eradication of porn to help the masses.

That shouldn't be a concern as long as this group doesn't infringe upon anything. From the looks of the page, the group members are volunteers and it seems to be voluntarily funded. Running the group could even be looked upon as a loose hobby.

I would say it was a concern as far as the validity of their claim goes.
