The northern hemisphere: 1% landmass under allied control. There are only 6 companies left on the ground (About 8000 troops). Three are bunkered in a small fort they've set up. The rest are scattered across a large island between the highlands in the far north and the central flats. There are three allied frigates remaining, surrounded by enemy ships. They've been pushed down into the atmosphere and are being bombarded by artillery on the ground. Currently several platoons have been dispatched to deal with the artillery, but are pinned by enemy air support.
The southern hemisphere: 18% of landmass under allied control. 300,000 troops left of the original 311,040. The entire force is concentrated on a central highland peninsula. That comes out to an entire division worth of troops dead. In low orbit, there are twelve frigates, seven destroyers, five cruisers, two battleships, and a carrier.
In orbit there are 276,480 troops left, guarded by eight frigates, two destroyers, two cruisers, a battleship, six carriers, and the flagship Rolff Leir.

Backstory:
In the fall of 2036, mankind's first manned interstellar warship was launched. It wasn't much to look at, little more than a tin can with 3-foot thick titanium plates and a couple dozen ballistic nuclear missiles. It had taken 10 years to build, each plate had to be carried by Soyuz-class surface-to-station rockets, at a total cost exceeding $175 billion. But it was powered by a prototype Thorium-based reactor, had an augmented reality tactical interface, and could launch drones. Its maiden voyage lasted all of three days, before a fleet of three alien ships were detected at the edge of the solar system. The USS Washington attempted to make contact with the first alien vessel near mars. The alien ship engaged the Washington, but was badly damaged in the skirmish. It retreated, allowing the Washington to fall back to Earth. Unfortunately, being comparatively slow, the Washingston was quickly caught by the remaining two alien vessels, outmaneuvered, and destroyed. The United States had, until that time, kept the existence of extraterrestrials a secret from the rest of Earth's governments. By the time UN, NATO, and PREA were alerted, the ships were already in orbit. The war raged across the world for three years, destroying almost everything. Finally, the governments got together and decided to nuke the ships in orbit. The resulting fallout would obliterate almost all life on Earth. America, China, Germany, and India had had the foresight and resources to create massive, subterranean cities across their lands throughout the years the war had endured. In Germany and America, people were tested for genetic superiority and assigned places accordingly. Three million Americans and 500,000 Germans were saved. In India and China, a list of jobs was created, people were categorized by ability and intelligence, and people of great knowledge were preserved. A total of 8 million PREA citizens were saved.
As the rest of the world went down in radioactive flames, Russia launched a generation ship equipped with a biosphere and Svalbard Global Seed Vault's contents, never to be heard from again. The launch of the ship (along with 10,000 Russian, Eastern European, and UK citizens) was protected by 600 soldiers, led by Lieutenant-Major Rolff Leir, holding off rioting civilians and enemy shock troops. They bought enough time to allow the ship to launch, in a legendary battle that raged across Moscow. The last transmission from the generation ship was a transcript of what had occurred in the battle, inspiration legends that would inspire the name of the future flagship of the Terran Coalition.
With the successful destruction of the alien invaders, it was only the matter of a century before humans once more ventured out onto Earth's face, in 2106. They were met by rotten, briny seas, darkened skies, bands of mutated survivors, and alot of dust.
They sent a scout to find the third ship 10 years after resurfacing. They found it at the edge of the system, derelict. Only one survivor was left, and was interrogated for access codes.
Any*****, the growing population of Earth got together, and using the information and technology harvested from the ship, began creating a fleet. Scientists in the citadels translated the star charts and histories, adapting much of it for use by humans. For years they sent explorers out into the galaxy, probing the vast unknown. One team of scientists followed the legend of the Araphan. The legend said something about a great empire that came from the ground, sending a single, massive ship to conquer the galaxy. It flew into a sun in their home system, wiping out systems for lightyears around. The main point of interest was their mimetic qualities, since resources on Earth were running low. So the team found the dark planet, studied the crystals they found, and awakened a dread race. The Terran Coalition voted to send a million-man invasion fleet to conquer and harvest the planet. By the time they got there, thousands of ships and millions of soldiers had been poured out by the planet. With the news arriving back on Earth that the northern invasion had gone south (BAM!), the Coalition sent reinforcements. They're due to arrive in a few weeks.

You smash down on the back of his neck, which is also armored. You kick his legs out from under him, putting him face down on the floor. He quickly rolls over and kicks back, hitting you rather roughly in the chest with his metal-plated boots. He jumps at you again, grappling you.
