I already know what merits are, but how do I know that my stronger game reviews are getting noticed? I would really like to get a merit, but I don't want to work hard and have my work never be discovered!
Every once in a while I feel like submitting a 4-5 paragraph review and I comment some of the qualities (special effects, graphics, music, etc.). I've gotten in the habit of doing this for a few days, so I probably have three well-detailed reviews.
But here are my questions:
1) How can I tell if my more detailed reviews are being noticed? Even though I enjoy writing and suggesting helpful things to others, my main goal is to get one of those prized merits. But I really don't want to right these monstrous reviews and never get a pat on the back, either!
2) Does voting up (the green arrow) work like flagging a comment; does it notify a moderator?
I'm sure I have a few more questions, but I really don't have any on the top of my head at the moment.
I would appreciate all answers, thanks!
Note: Sorry if some questions are hard to understand... sometimes I write too fast and forget to double check my work. hehe.
Well good, keep writing those long, thorough reviews =D
1) No, there is no way to tell if you've gotten a merit or not for any certain game, only by that little indicator on your Profile will you be able to tell if you have gotten any, but specifics aren't available. If you look, good, long reviews stand out amongst the small comments though, so it's not like they won't be noticed. They will find them, it may take a while, but they will find them. Also, it is best to not ask for a merit either, that is not the way to a merit.
2) Yes, Voting Up makes the text bigger, the more people hit that green arrow, the bigger and bolder the text becomes, making it easier for Mods to see. However it doesn't notify them, I believe, but it does help some. That's why it's important to 'Vote Up' any good comments you see, so everyone who deserves a merit will get one in the future.
Yes, there is no way to see what game got merited, but as RaptorExx said, there is a little slot that says how many merits you have. I hope to see more merits from you soon!
Also, it depends on luck and the users who see it. Most users will just ignore your comment, but some dedicated users that are not mods might up vote your comment or even report you to the merit_recognition!
Merit_Recognition is no longer operating, too many users were abusing it through various schemes so the Moderators got rid of it. This was announced here.

If you click on your comment? I'm not sure if that is allowed but definitely about the 'Vote Up', well it will eventually, but sooner if it was not emblazoned by the 'Vote Up's I would think.
If you Vote Up a comment, does it jump up above all the other comments? Because it's very annoying to see the review I worked so hard on sink to the bottom of the page... then it vanishes to the next page (which isn't helpful, because people rarely check the entire comment page).
So, if it doesn't already, I would like to suggest that the Vote Up button allows the voted comment to jump above the rest of the other comments. Because most of the comments pushing mine down are the ones that people put no effort into: "Wow nice game, 8/10", "Game sucks!", etc...
Of course, I wouldn't be angry if this idea wasn't accepted... it was just a thought. =p
That would be an alright idea but there are too many trouble makers that would cause chaos with this feature. it would be a good idea if people would be responsible
If you Vote Up a comment, does it jump up above all the other comments?
No, but it makes it more obvious to an Administrator that they have been voted on. Don't worry about it going back a few pages, when we look for merits for a game, we look at all the pages. It might not get caught right away, but more likely than not it will be found.
i try i rite long comments that i poot alot of time into and i try to make it helpfull and i vote up the people that have good comments to help them and i try to help them but no one ever helps me
