It's been a while since the last Armatar Contest... time to launch a new one for all you dedicated artists out there.

The new topic is one that has been on my list for quite a while... and as you may have heard, March 10th was international Super Mario Day! WA-HOO!

This pioneer in pixel art style games is the true ambassador for this edition's theme! So, what better moment to launch the next Armor Games' Armatar Contest than this one? Right! It's time for the:

Yes! You've read correctly! It's time to test your art skills in Pixel form! Even though it may seem easy, creating art in pixel form may proove itself more difficult than you may think... especially with the current modern day art programs at your disposal. So why not go back to the roots of gaming?
As the art may have changed, the rules remained the same. Here they are once more...

ARMATAR CONTEST GUIDELINES :

ne: All entries must be appropriate. They cannot be offensive or profane in nature. Keep it clean!
The entry must be square and at least 512x512 pixels in dimension.
Your entry must scale down well to 100x100. So if it looks good in its larger form, make sure that it will still look good when it is scaled down to the armatar size. Here are a few suggestions about this :
Sometimes keeping it simple is better. If you go into a lot of detail, it might not look as great when you scale it down. So keep in mind what the Armatar size will be and check often how it looks when it is scaled down.
Remember to save a lot while you are making it! Better to delete 20 -in between made- save files later on, than ending up with a finished piece you don't like or an end result that is showing up blurred when scaled down...
If you are able to do vector, by all means! That can help with the sharpness of the image. However, since they are small in Armatar size, this is probably not a big issue.
All entries must be fitting to the current contest's theme. If a certain entry is debatable to whatever extend, a Mod or Admin will give the decisive and final ruling for submission.
An entry must be completely original. You cannot use entire (or even elements from) pieces of artwork made by someone else, the entire armatar must be 100% created by you! A Moderator can ask you to provide conclusive proof that the entry was created by you entirely and you are obligated to provide this when asked for.

Plagiarism will not only exclude your submission by means of disqualification, it will also exclude you from participation in any future contests AND will have further consequences!

CLOSING DATE OF THIS CONTEST :

This Contest will be held untill 04/22/2017, so there's more than enough time to enter your artwork!

WINNING SUBMISSIONS :

Every participant of an official edition of the Armor Games' Armatar Contest receives a well deserved Merit for submitting one -or more- entries to every separate edition held. This means a maximum of one Merit per participant, per edition.

Alongside this Merit for your participation, we have a special non-game Quest to award for the winning submissions of the Armor Games' Armatar Contest! This special Armatar Creator Quest will be bestowed upon the creators of the winning entries that were chosen for every contest held. The winners will receive this Quest to show our appreciation for their outstanding work. Wear this Quest with pride!
Winners will be chosen after the edition is officially closed;
The winning entries are non-debatable, results are final;
The Armatar Creator Quest can only be awarded once per user. If a particular user wins another edition, they will not receive this Quest again, as Quests can not be achieved a second time;
As a special appreciation for their outstanding work, all the winners and their winning entries of every edition will be placed into the Armatar Creator Quest Winners Hall of Fame!

Allright! Now grab your pencils and paper, and/or your mouse, and start making your wonderful original works of art, PIXEL STYLE! As always... be creative and amaze us! =)

And remember... there is a special guest judge for this Edition! Super Mario!!

What if my entry is so simple that doing the first drawing at 100x100 makes more sense than drawing at 512x512 and then scaling down to 100x100?

Yeah as long as your image doesn't have anti-aliasing, you scale with a 1:1 ratio, and you shut off any interpolation when scaling, the image will scale without distortion.

The 512x512 guideline makes more sense when the contest isn't pixel art because more complex raster images typically won't scale without distorting somewhat. So, it makes sense to make a large image first to work on the details and scale it smaller after. However, with pixel art it's probably the reverse. I'd say it's better to make your image small and see if if the details come across and then scale it large.

@browsermmolover2 Err... that's not the French flag?
However, the entry is legit and will be added though.

@Aleksa_2929 I'll see what I can do when I find some spare time, ok?

@R1a2z3e4 I need some time to fix it still, but no problem!

@Patrick2011 Nice idea! Maybe add some shading to pimp it up a bit? If not, no problem though!

@doqck No restrictions as to how you work in down or upsizing. I make mine in 120px squared first, then blow them up to 512px!

@huwbert2013 Awesome! Nice one!!
Could you upload the one without the line on the legs once more in 512px size please?
Thanx! I will add it then, ok?

And one that was requested by @Unbl ... even though he forgot to say 'please', I still decided to make it, as I liked the idea.

@MrDayCee The French flag comment was a joke. Since the French quickly surrendered during WWII, the joke is that the flag they use most often is a white surrender flag.

Hi @Gogotank can't wait to see your entry buddy.
Yeah I had a speccy (three actually, two 48k and a disk drive one) in my youth. Also a Amstrad cpc464, ZX81 and Acorn Electron too.
Pixels were all around me!!!
