I was just wondering what everyones opinion is on this topic. Personally, I would keep it a controlled substance (illegal). I know there are people who use it for medicinal purposes (glaucoma) and illegal purposes (to get high). All of the debates are pretty heated discussions and I thought this one would spark some new ideas, philosophies, concerns, and suggestions. I'm looking forward to reading them. thanks.
If you legalized Marijuana what do you think the crime rate in America would be like? It would increase tenfold because if people are high they are not going to think about what is going to happen next. Most likely they would go to jail for a very long time. Edgucation would also go down because if a student comes into school high they are not going to learn even half of what they would learn if they were not high. Also think about people driving on the roads and highways. If you let people on Marijuana drive then fatalities and car accidents will increase alot. The downside of legalizing Marijuana is huge. To legalize Marijuana is to legalize Murder.
Marijuana is labeled a gateway drug, you don't get addicted to the marijuana. But when that dime bag stops getting you buzzed, you will move to cocaine and other drugs to get that high. It's called a gateway drug for a reason.
It won't stop getting me "buzzed",because i'm not a heavy user.I use it approximately twice a month.If I smoked,say,3 joints a day I would stop being buzzed real soon.But I don't...so i'm good.
I say legalize because cigarettes and Alcohol/Liquor are legal and each is over 10x more harmful than Marijuana. You can OD on all those three, but not on THC(the drug in Marijuana). THC is also non-toxic. It's the burnt plant matter that causes (slight)lung damage. And that can be solved with a simple vaporizer. Also, it would cripple Gangs in the US, as their primary source of income is now legal.
It also improves creativity, heightens the level of thought, and decreases the amount of violence in society. It also aids the immune system, and relieves everyday stress(as well as emotional traumas). I know this by numerous experiences. I have been sick only once since starting Marijuana.
Plus, look at Amsterdam. And even Canada. It's legal in both those countries(though limited to no more than an ounce in Canada). Both are highly successful nations. Both have MUCH lower crime rates than the US.
So, I see no reason to keep it legal. I can see limiting the amount one person can have at a time to one ounce to maby half a pound at max.
If you think I am wrong or just creating facts, then look at Wikipedia's article on Marijuana.
You know, after reading though some posts in this thread, I have come to realizer the disgusting amount of ignorance in the world regarding a simple herb.
Marijuana does not increase crime, but rather the opposite. People feel less inclined to go do things dangerous high.
Marijuana is not a gateway drug. If you're weak-minded enough to try heavier drugs(heroine, cocaine, meth), then you shouldn't try Marijuana in the first place.
Marijuana is not a cheap-thrill. It's a mental and physical relaxation. It also relieves stress. It's an ultimate "chill".
Marijuana does not decrease intelligence. It in fact raises the level at which one is able to think. It deepens thought, and therefore temporarily increases intelligence.
It's just where people draw the line, in long term effects smoking is where more people die out of most drugs.
If you legalize marijuana then your just pulling back the line to meth and crack. It's all about the people and their own self-descipline. I think pot shouldn't be legalized just due to the fact that there are worse things that we would there by turn to or enable people with. To legalize it would be to say the pro's are better than the cons. Which bites but in seriousness it's true.
I can't type at all tonight, excuse my spelling/wording.
Alcohol abuse kills FAR!!!!! more people than smoking pot does and yet alcohol is legal. I say pot should be legal as well.
Also, you don't get addicted to marijuna. Look it up Caffine found in your little kid soda is way more addictive than pot. So maybe you should read something before commenting on things you know nothing about but just spout the shit that your parents teach you.
Of course not! What would possibly be the benefits of legalizing it?
Way to necro a 2 year old thread. Next time check date stamps before posting. However to address your question there are numerous social, medical, and financial benefits to the legalization of marijuana. If you would like message me on my profile and I'll send you some information detailing these, or you can find the newer thread about marijuana here in the WEPR forum.
