Les Stroud cause he is old. Lol jk, But really Les Stroud because he goes off on his own, no big camera crew following him around so that if he drinks his own urine they can save him from getting AIDS. Les Stroud does things on his own, the show is more realistic because there are no camera men telling him what to do. Don't get me wrong Bear is an awesome guy too, but at what they do, Les is better.

I agree with Pablo. The only thing Les has that's electronic is an emergency radio so for when he is in a dire and life threatening situation. Still, Bear demonstrates some pretty good techniques as does Les.

Why? Eating fake scorpion isn't that hard. And bear still cries after he eats that stuff. Les Stroud actually says "yeah, it's pretty good" when he eats them.

Survivor Man is more realistic, but Man Vs. Wild is more informative. Bear Grylls is more about getting out as fast as possible, while Les Stroud is about surviving, and waiting for rescue.

The Camera Crew (Or lack therof) really makes a difference in the filming of the shows. Les Stroud only has an emergency beacon, so he just warns you of the dangers, and points out stuff you should avoid. Bear Grylls has the Camera Crew, so he can get away with doing more dangerous stuff. In one episode, Bear Grylls demonstrated what you should do if you're forced to cross a frozen stream and fall in. So the Camera Crew allows him to take greater risk that Les Stroud can't, because if Bear screws up, he's covered.

Survivor Man has more realism though. He goes in, and only applies the knowledge that a general person would have. So unlike Bear Grylls, he doesnt say 'This is the ultra-rare plant called the Symbosian Flower. Only eight people in the world know how to safely eat it, and its a good thing that I'm one of those eight.' In one episode, Les Stroud plays the part of a bush pilot whose crashed, and so he purposely puts his arm in a sling. So its hard core, and realistic.

I like Bear Grylls/Man Vs. Wild better, because it makes for better entertainment. Hes constantly on the move, and encountering new things, while Les Stroud/Survivor Man sits in one spot and makes due with what he has.

Besides, the Degree commercials with Bear Grylls are hilarious. 'Degree helps mask the scent of fear. To proove it, we're locking these two men, one with Degree Deoderant, in a truck with ravenous Wolverines.' XD

What makes you think it's fake? I've seen uncut scenes where it would be scurrying on the ground, he'd pick it up, tear off the stinger, talk for a few seconds about how scorpions are full of protein, and eat it while it's moving.

I like watching MvW over SM because in SM he's limited because he dosen't want to endanger himself. He can't really show much other than walking, setting up a camp, and picking berries. In MvW he can show how to do other things like crossing deep canyons or frigid rivers.

Les would never even think about doing something like this (skip to 4:00).

Bear Grylls.

He does several "nutcase" stuff to survive.

Les Stroud shows several logic-to-do stuff while Bear make things that people would never imagine.

Bear don't receive help from the cameraman: he helps him!

And Bear explains why he is doing such things (like saying that a lizard have a lot of iron before cooking and eating it).

Also, I thought very cleaver when Bear used sheep leather as a sleeping bag (on the Ireland episode).

The cameramen have it worse than he does sometimes. Imagine crossing an icy river while carrying 50lbs of camera!

The crew is there in case something unexpected happens like he falls and is unconscious, or a large animal attacks, or he gets bit by a snake. If any of those things happened to Les, he's screwed. That's why BG is able to do riskier things. His insurance bill must be up there.

I definitly like how Bear Grylls brings a crew along. Not only does it mean he can do more risky things, it gives alot clearer picture of what is going on, and you can get some real great shots.

Here's Wiki:
Here's a vid of one of his shows:

His is more about the psycological aspect of being alone and trying to keep it together. BG is more about overcoming your fears and doing what must be done in order to survive in addition to keeping your sanity.
