Doom brought so much to the realm of the FPS. The first chainsaw, the first stairs, and I think the first time you could go outside. Man, that whole series of games was just great.

RE4 has the best chainsaw attack ever

RE4 had the infamous DOUBLE CHAINSAW ZOMG (see: Mercenaries bonus game). It's also the game that comes to the forefront when thinking about chainsaws.
