Do you think that a non-nuclear & atomic war could ever happen between the United States and Russia?

Hmm, Russia is a lot worse off then the U.S economic wise. They do have nuclear weapons though which is a huge threat. Plus, Russia would have a big up side if fighting a defensive war.

What I meant was, does Russia have the means or resources to fight a real war with the US.

Yes, they have the resources to challenge the US, however, they don't have the resources to sustain a challenge (in the case of a drawn out conflict, which is all they could hope without the use of nukes, they would lose).

Neither side would win. Thus, neither side will go to war with the other.

Let's take nuclear weapons out of the equation.

The US has 2x as many citizens. Russia has 2x the land mass.

Both sides are extremely patriotic. In fact, I would argue that Russia and the US are the most patriotic nations in the world. If Russia (or any country) were to invade the US, American citizens would fight to the death to stop them. And we know what happens when someone invades Russia... they get destroyed (Napoleon and Hitler learned that the hard way).

Both sides would fight to the absolute last citizen before giving in. There is no way either side would win a conventional war against the other. Everyone knows this. Every politician knows this. That is why no side would even think of threatening war with the other.

Take a look at it this way. If we do go to war with Russia, wouldn't the starving people be angry at their government for leaving them in that state? All that we have to do is provide food for these people and I'm sure that they'll fight for us.

If we were to go to war with Russia, we would keep beating the hell out of each other until someone decided to go to using nukes or something. Since the US has to get confirmation from the congress and all that, Russia would probably bomb us first. The US then hits them back ten times harder (like we usually do), and then I think it would be a game of one- uppage until someone gives in.

It doesn't work so easily lol. You can't go into Russian territory and pursue Russians to fight for you. The military would KILL you while your in there

Many people would probably die because Russia and US would be doing some "Say Uncle" crap, not worried about who suffers. They would just want to win it all in the end.

Quite frankly, I would be surprised if it doesn't happen in the next few years, and by that i mean five to ten years.

I also think there is a very good possibility that there could be a war between Russia and the United States that could include nuclear warfare in those same five to ten years.

So easily. Especially now with the tension over Georgia.

If a nuclear war were to occur, it would be over within hours. What would determine the winner is who strikes first. Who ever strikes first in a nuclear war wins.

It is that simple.
