I know I'm not the only one hearing about China cheating by putting 14 year olds in the Olympics when the age limit is 16.

China's been screwing everything up all over the place. First, they try to put a delay on the Olympic broadcast, then they ban the Red Arrows, now gymnastics, all the while having to suppress riots that they brought upon themselves...

China is a power freak, and it needs to stop messing with the rules and trying to change the Olympics just because it is the host.

Err...

then they ban the Red Arrows

What? The Red arrows are banned from the 2012 Olympics, by ENGLAND, lol.

now gymnastics

They banned gymnastics?

I cannot belive what happened today in China. The judging in the tae kwin do was a disgrace. First of all our british lass clearly kicked her opponent in the face in the closing seconds and should have won the bout. The judges didnt give it as she was fighting a chinese girl. However GBR appealed and showed video evidence and said they would ensure that chinese judges never participated in olympic sport ever again by threatening to take them to the IOC courts. The Chinese overturned their decision. The British girls next bout was only 20 mins after all this had been sorted out and so she lost as she didnt have time to prepare/ warm down.

Secondly the big thing that happened today in relation to chinese dodgy rulings was that the Cuban athlete was disqualified for taking too long in an injury break (which he didnt) and he also claimed that the chinese judges werent scoring him correctly (which they werent). He kicked the official in the face and him and his coach were banned for life from the sport. However he said that he was treated unfairly and that someone had to stand up to the corrupt ofiicials. It seems that wherever a Chinese athlete goes up against a different nationality they get an easy ride making it unsided for the other athletes. This is clearly the Chinese govt applieing pressure to ensure they win more medals however i n the fighting events especially like boxing and tae kwon do there is a lot of gambling involved and people think that some of the judges have been bribed. From the quality of some of the judging i have seen over the past few weeks i wouldnt put it past them.

1 piece of good news today tho. The aussie diver beat the chinese guy denying the chinks a diving clean sweep. For once i was cheering for the wallabies today.

Bribing is a very risky move! If one judge doesn't agree to it, China's whole reputation is DEAD!

I don't think they would take the risk...

In a totalitarian regime like China, im sure they could persuade the judges with nasty methods, Also China didnt exactly have a squeaky clean rep to begin with. They have already tried to get away with cheating in the gymnastics and the diving and the boxing judging and tae kwon do judging has been very suspect aswell so i think on the whole yes they would take the risk.

Not really. If the majority of judges didn't agree to it, then yes there may be a problem but if it's just one, one is easy to suppress.

I suggest game theory

p.s. Woody- while Matos may have felt that he had grounds to complain, his conduct regarding the matter was a violation of not the code of the Olympics but of the code of sportsmanship, which is far, far graver. Being a sportsman is not about being able to tell when something is fair or not, but being able to compete graciously no matter what the circumstances. It's actually a different matter to complaining about the dodgy judging...if I were him I *would* have just sucked it up and finished the bout as he had every chance of winning against the Kazakh (he was up 3-2), had he not stubbed his foot. Furthermore his default was due to his coach's fundamental misunderstanding of the rules, which are their responsibility.

However appropriate ways to protesting are in symbolic gestures e.g. refusing your medal, or lodging an official complaint with the IOC. Chucking a hissy-fit and kicking the officials will only make you look like a knob.

1 piece of good news today tho. The aussie diver beat the chinese guy denying the *****s a diving clean sweep. For once i was cheering for the wallabies today.

I know eh! I was watching that- Mitcham already blew the field away with a 6th round of 106 in the prelims (best dive of the heat), so I knew he was going to really shine but I didn't expect him to pull what might possibly be the best dive anybody has and will ever see in their lifetime on a 2 1/2 twisting 2 1/2 pike. Massive air, perfect form and almost no splash to get an almost unheard of 112.10.

And the best part is that one gold medal is worth eight. I think he achieved something pretty much the rest of the world was hoping for. And that would be probably the biggest mark against my consistent criticism of the judging.

Did anyone see that (I think it was a girl) in gymnastics who got a 0 and nothing more was heard about it. She didn't seem to do anything wrong so I don't think she was disqualified, even if she was no one said anything about it. What was apparent though was that she was a threat to the Chinese getting a medal so they must've somehow got rid of her, accident? I don't think so.
China is cheating there is no discussion on that point. They use underage athletes, most likely use underhanded tactics (as I and others have mentioned), and most likely take drugs, seriously, when have the Chinese won anything in cycling, or anything besides table tennis for that matter? And hey, lets not forget the opening ceremony. Pre-filmed fireworks and a kid lip-syncing another just because she didn't look pretty enough? That's harsh.
I was laughing when that sprinter guy just walked off the track and they showed the faces of the chinese supporters so disappointed and confused. I was laughing.Hard.

Yes, she apparently did her vault before the green light went and had to be DQ'ed. I think that was lame as she was definitely good for a medal.

I still think that Matos had a case. Be it unsportsman like or not his reaction.

I was watching thed diving all yesterday. It was so good. I wanted Mitcham to win so badly. It meant the Chinese coouldnt get the diving clean sweep. On top of that Mitcham thoroughly deserved it. He nearly got perfect 10s for gods sake!

I agree. There is no way she is ligit. Honestly, she looks twelve. You can tell when a girl has hit puberty. I understand that chinese girls can look younger than they are but this is dramatically different from what other 16 year old chinese girls look like. Their government can make whatever documents they want. There is no way we can ever know for sure how old she is, but it will be interesting to see how old they say she is next games.

I did see something on this. I think that they are pretty much bending things in their favor to win more gold. Also, I saw a boxing match with USA vs. China, the USA guy was kicking China's ass, knocked him down 3 times, but China WON!!!?!?!?!? WTF!
