This is a spin-off of the original GFX Art Battle, but with some updated rules and changes. Please make sure to read the rules before entering, since they have been modified. Good luck, we look forward to seeing some creative artistic entries!
Competition Rules 1. Must be hand drawn, either on paper or in a program. It can then be manipulated in an graphics program. But unoriginal artwork cannot be used as the main focus. Copyrighted images cannot be used. All pieces containing copyrighted images will be disqualified. 2. Submissions must follow the current theme that has been chosen by a moderator for that week. If you submit more than one piece, please clarify which one you would like to be judged. 3. If your image is larger than 600 pixels wide, please provide a link to the image instead of posting it in the forum. Otherwise, the image will be cut off. 4. Artists cannot win in subsequent weeks. You can still submit, but if you won the week before, you cannot get first place again the next week. 5. After the deadline, a moderator will pick the winner, and they will be awarded a 25 AP award.
Lessee... Bronze: You cannot win in two rounds in a row. You can, on the other hand participate in all the rounds you like. And I usually participate in all the rounds, even though I judge said round. Both for the challenge and for having a feeling how the theme is. Wouldn't give you a theme I wouldn't draw myself. Besides the fact that I have taken a break from entering due to exams and summer, that is how I do.
The judging "Issue": I see Ernie seem to have a problem with only having one judge, even though he was too a lone judge. Yet, I have only had complains on one judging, the Poltergeist one, and that was just because I chose to stick to the theme. (And Strop scolding me for being rude, but I doubt that count as judging as much as way of acting) Besides that, only complains have been on the theme, and I trust the users will tell at least me, if they find it unfair, as long as I give my reasons for said choice.
If the reason for three mods was to give scores and that way find the winner, I have seen that it does not work. Zophia and I are debating our choices if we disagree with each other, and if we agree, there probably is a reason, which is why we do not give scores, but actual explanations. If your problems is that one person (Zophia has not left the judging, she has just stated she alone might not be the best option) would not be fair, then yes, you might want to find some judges you actually trust will be fair, instead of someone like me.
As for the horse, there are fault. Don't know the commercial and... Ended up having a major migraine, so I don't think it went too well.
Man, you guys really got riled up, eh? General agreeing with Cen here.
Seriously, though, if you think there should be a change of judging methods because the current judges aren't fair, that's.. That honestly surprises me. o.o One thing is that a specific judge might like a certain kind of entry better (that's been obvious at least since Strop was judge), another is if you think such preferences break the competition. I only noticed Ernie complaining, though.. Is it an actual issue for more people? Speak your minds!
Anyway.
Rushed judging of two rounds at once go!
First, the Cute theme
Champion's Exhibit crimsonblade55
O.o.. .. .. .. .. .. Remind me not to take those drugs.
First place Cenere
Only entry that made me go Aww! out loud. It's too frigid adorable, and I'm too impressed that you did that in the GIMP.
Second place Thoad
1) Those little guys are adorable. 2) The pearly eyes. 3) You got the nightmarish considerations in. :3
Third place RaptorExx
Frog^^ And a clip-on-skin tie. :P Looks pretty cute to me~ Nice smooth coloring and lines, btw, what did you draw it in?
The rest of the entries:
Perslos
Four lines, a floodfill and copy/paste? That's, uh, it doesn't look like it took a whole lot of time or effort, not even on the getting an idea side. More happy than cute, methinks.
Zega
The yellow one is absolutely adorably. It's something with those pearly eyes, they're just instant cuteness, sometimes even if you slap them onto a ferocious monster. The other shapes are pretty cute too~ And you're making good progress with your shading skills.
GuitarHeroFtw
Duckling Pacmans?~ Happycute~ You could easily have done more to your entry, though, it's very simplistic as it is (that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just think it would have been more interesting with, dunno, maybe a simple line as a background?). Pixie214
Bambiraptor? O.o Sorta cute name, yes~ Your drawing itself would have been a lot more cute if you'd given it a larger pupil, though. As it is, the critter kinda looks either retarded or scared. Bonus cookie for oddly creative take on the theme, though~
goumas13
That's actually quite well drawn (although you might wanna fix the levels, I think the scanner ate the colours). Are children cute?
superpickle (Image links to the - disturbing version.) DEMON CAT WITH HEARTSES. > > It's cute. In the horror movie kind of cute way. Which is cool, but disturbing~
Bronze
It's a pretty cool drawing, very good shading, good proportions for a baby too, though the face is a bit skewed. However, I don't consider it cute. Happy, sure, charming, yeah.. Cute, not so much? Might be because it's a baby and I find those kinda scary and stuff..
jdoggparty
The less gay version!~ It is sorta cute, it is~ I think maybe you should have used a slightly thicker line for their lips?
Owen135731
Sad triangle? :< The shape thing done again~ Cute, but not cute enough to win.
zlith
Personally, I think it's more funny than it's cute. But it is pretty funny~
Oh, and at this point I've gotten through the pages to what Apocalypse wanted to be his entry. But entries have to be drawn for this competition, and I clearly remember that specific stick figure drawing being made for a specific something else. Possibly why it's not really cute anyway. > >
kingryan
Oh my, it blinks/flaps! You're not supposed to do that outside the animation competition, KR. :P (Also, as Bronze said, it would look better if they didn't do the blink/flap at the exact same time.) Cute, though.
parrot657
Glad you remembered to give brush credit~ Credit for Swablu is of course to Nintendo and all that... But yes, it is a cute pokemon^^ What program did you make it in? Generally that kind of squares aren't supposed to be saved to the finished image, so just wondering how you ended up with that.
Okay. That was the first round. Next round coming up in a bit.

What about the drawing? lol. I hopes I get a place on the next judging .
Oh, sorry, didn't realize I kinda forgot to say anything specific about it x_x
It's a decent rendition of a classical Swablu pose, and the background colour theme suits it. Didn't need as much background as it has, though, could have been cropped smaller~
It was supposed to be now, but I got distracted. And Bronze seemed to want a smidgen more time. I'm guessing tomorrow.
lol I'm glad I didn't come across the cute theme, I am horrible at the cute stuff...hmm Zophia doo you like Anime? Pearl/large eyes is a usual style
I don't usually think of pearly eyes as an anime trait (Cenere pointed out a good reason why). But I do like some anime/manga. Not the horribly large eyes, though.
Hope we get more entries, anybody know what the lowest amount of entries for a single theme is?
Three. If there's less than three, there will be no merit and no judging, because picking one out of two is - mean. > >
