Being a Christian myself, I've always believed absolute truth is undenialbe. But I recently had someone question my beliefs, so I did a little research. I just want to hear some other opinions before I draw any conclusions.
We JUST had a debate about this in my History 290 class. We discussed absolutism, relativism, post-modernism and everything in between.
In my opinion, there is a universal truth. BUT how we interpret the truth is what differs. For instance, most agree that 4 planes crashed on 9/11. But how we interpret that is going to differ. Some say it was just 20 freedom hating Muslims attacking us. Others say it was the US support for Israel which is why they did it. Some say the US government planned the whole operation. There are millions of interpretations. Which is right? I don't know. I lean towards the whole supporting Israel hypothesis. But does that mean someone else's version of the truth is any less valid? I don't know.
That is basically what I've found to be true. There is a truth that applies to everyone, no matter who they are or what they do. Even though we may veiw it differently it dosen't change the truth.
and OK, good. But still it's so silly to think your religion is so good every1 must obey it.
They have court cases by the dozens about puritans suing other religious factions over not accepting them, and expect more than religious tolerance but pure worshiping..
If you think your religion is the only pure religion, you have more than one issue that won't reside in this world..
i also believe in absolute truth, I mean nothing can exist w/ out absolute truth, if u say that u dont believe in absolute truth ure actually saying, " I believe it is absolutely true that there is no such thing as absolute truth." which makes no sense watsoever, so there HAS to be absolute truth
Jason, Shinteshu is right that kinda stuff can get you banned so don't.
Of course their is absoulute truth. It is what science is based on. If there was no abouslute truth then we wouldn't know anything becusase everything would be a varible. Abouslute truth in religion, which I belive is why you started this, is much more complecated. Many christians are open to science and have molded their belif with it which I personally think is great but if you are looking for a abouslute truth that proves your religion than you are out of luck my friend. Thats why religion is based on faith...
Abosulute truth does exsist in religious histroy but in religious beliefs it's not there.
Why did you censor Absolute Truth? And with no proof about a certain religion most people just do it to congregate and socialize with the people that flock there, while "believing" in that religion. If there was solid proof, 100% of people would believe in that religion and actually warship too. But since there isn't...
Xantos what 'roof' are you talking about. Don't say the every day miricles of you and me, please don't becuase I'm talking scientific fact or hard factual data.
really nyou want fact okay look at antartica under miles of frozen snow there is frozen ice you must be thinking of course there is but scientist have been studying adn the only way for that amount of ice to accumulae is for there to be a massive flood that would have to surround teh entire earth.
