I think this is a great idea.if you like the user and add them that will give them the privilege to comment you.But if you don't add them you can't comment them. What I'm trying to say is that you can only receive comments from people you like.If you see a user cursing at everyone you don't add them. Then that way you don't have to put up with their cursing.
This is the first thread about blocking users and again it;s a good idea
If been here longer than you and there has definitely been another topic about this before. The thing is this is de ja vu, everyone is repeating everything. Have something new to say for once?
But it has it's flaws and it would cause restrictions that are obvious, overall i think the bad things weigh out the good.
I don't think this idea should be initiated.
Here's what i think should happen:
The spammers who do visit you're page-let 'em, then just add them to a block list so that only they can't comment you. Because then everyone else leaves you alone, and you are still free to chat with random people and not not have to add half of AG to you're friends list.
Wow, 11 pages and this argument is still ragin' on? How many 'spammers' do people possibly get on their profile page? And if you do get spammers, delete their spammy comments! It's seriously a waste of time for the dev's to see this idea go through.
There are simple solutions: a) Contact a mod/admin if a user is harassing you or constantly bombarding you b) Delete their spam -- c) Flag their spam
The safety and security issue aren't that big on AG... it's relatively safe and what possible information do you have to give if someone did try something?
"Oh, look at this guy, he's 15 and he lives in Newark, New Jersey... now... we just gotta find the right kid"
It just doesn't seem wise to invest any sort of time into creating a blocking users function. It's pointless.
It's not pointless. It could be good. What if I just disliked you but never spammed on your profile? That could be one. We can also make the spam level decrease!
Idk I like the idea for the fact that if some annoying kid keeps posting crap on your board and it's just getting really annoying and no mods are on, and by the time you delete his comment he has already posted another, it could come in handy?
Yeah, but how often does that actually happen? Maybe more frequently for the users in the top 10/15/20/25/etc. but certainly not the lower ranks. And even if that is the case -- keep the comments of a user harassing you (partly because those idiots who post crap on your board don't delete the comments themselves) and use that as proof to report the user to the moderators/admins.
The solutions are there to help prevent user-on-user harassment/bullying/etc. -- use them people!
We still need it! People like Firetail keep getting annoyed and even if we tell mods, they could keep making accounts and never stop! It gets really annoying. No one likes to go bother a mod every darn second every time someone spams on your profile!
