I think people who think that racing cars is cool don't really think about how it affects it them. Gas prices are raised because the gas is running out, racing uses lots of gas. Personally, if it was up to me, I would shut down all racing cars.
Well, why do we run? To prove that we are better than the next person?
When you think about it, NASCAR is not only about the driver's abilities, who are the ones that put the gear in the cars to give it 400+ horse power?
Nascar is like a competition between mechanics, to make the fastest car out there that requires less maintenance i.e. uses less fuel for less fill-ups, more durable tires that can go more laps, building an engine that is both light and powerful.
Who knows, maybe something from nascar can cross over from professional to commercial and make cars better than they were?
They race them because they have fun. You could ask this question about almost anything (that you didn't need to live) and would get that answer.
As to gas prices they are going up because the market is going up not that there isn't enough oil for the next 10 years. For the bigger the market the more compititon which means a bigger market and higher prices.
Though it would be nice if that happened, I have to say that the only reason people like NASCAR is because it is pointless competition that has a chance that someone will get injured. Also it something people can argue about, fight about, and something that provides more pointless things to waste your money on.
And if you don't get why it makes money worth less, it is because when there is more of something, it isn't as valuable.
For instance, if they found a giant reserve of gold that doubled how much gold there was, gold prices would go down because it wasn't as rare as it was before.
