Alrighty, this has been brewing in the artistic minds of a few AGers lately - an animation contest!

Similar to the Art Skills Competition we need a few rules in place (largely copy/pasted, so credits to Carlie for parts of this):
1. Must be hand drawn, either on paper or in a program. It can then be manipulated in an graphics program (GIMP is a nice free one with a build in animation filter - google it). Copyrighted images cannot be used. All pieces containing copyrighted images will be disqualified.
2. Submissions must follow the current theme. If you submit more than one piece, please clarify which one you would like to be judged.
3. If your animation is larger than 630 pixels wide, please provide a link to the animation instead of posting it in the forum. Otherwise, the animation will be cut off.
4. Artists cannot win in subsequent weeks. You can still submit, but if you won the week before, you cannot get first place again the next week. Unless only one person submits......let's hope that doesn't happen!

Alright, let's see if this kicks off.
First theme will be ~ Jumping.
It's a basic thing to learn in animation, and it can be anything from a pixelated blob performing up/down motions, to - anything jumping.

I don't know who will do the judging yet (will be me, if no one else (like Strop?) decides they'll do it).
Deadline for first round will be October 20th, since animation is a somewhat time consuming process. Go make those pixels jump!

Vest way to learn is to experiment.
Or get someone to show you how it's done... Or... Okay, I don't know. I hope you figure it out.

I do some of my animation with transparencies. I just have a white background and just white out what I don't want. Probably not most effective...but works fine for me...

My attempt at "sprite" animation was made of fail, so I think I'll turn my attention to water instead, hah.

Though it won't be an official thing...just some lulz.

Kool king, but here's an actual animeration my be! I call it, the water wave. It's basically my shot at a stick figure doing water bending.

GAH, that's right lol... Well, I guess I gotta wait for the next one then..

@Thoadthetoad: ... huh? I just use a different website than you did. That one deals with basic animations and.. looks like Paint or something. I opened up Photoshop, take my render, which was the stream of water that is not moving, and put that into the BG. I fade it, blur it, then go with the selected brushes and effects as the real BG (which is the cave setting). As for the smoke that's being created from the stream of water, that goes for "Misty Water", a set of brushes and I set different sizes and brightness, but I didn't add too many frames to it. The ripples in the water was what took most of my time, I added 145 frames to it, had the ripples protrude further out as they got closer, while making those at the back disappear. It's tedious work, that's for sure, but it gets the job done.

As for the contest, I guess I'll wait until the next one.

I was just seeing if you made it, I wasn't quite sure because it's that good. No need to explain the entire thing. But now I know.

Ok...Here is my version of Thoad's wave thing. I did it in Pivot too...

The colours got messed up when I changed it to a .gif...they were originally all nice and gradiented...
