Now, I know we all have seen crazies toting those "End of The World! Repent now!" signs in movies and real life. Those people are fueled by religious gobbledy gook and mental disorders.
I am not one of those people. I am a rational, realistic thinker. And time right now are indeed scary.
Look at what is happening in the U.S and world today. Stocks are dropping are insane rates, countries are being bled dry of their wealth (while even more money is being invested in order to try and turn around the losses.) The real end of sorts will comes when the stock market worldwide crashes and all credit and money systems are made useless.
I am aure most all of you have seen the movie "Fight Club", correct? Where all major U.S credit companies were destroyed and, as such, everything was set back to a default of zero. Same idea in real life right now, but worse.
If the economy in the U.S totally fails this time round, it will be beyond the point of redemption. And without the U.S's economy, worldwide economy will suffer greatly if not fail all together.
The way I see it, right after a total collapse martial law will be imposed. Yet that can only last so long in such a trying time. No money to pay all the costs of having soldiers around the clock. After a while, things will lapse into a chaotic state of anarchy. People will be in a state of shock for a while until the gravity of what just happened sinks in. That will be the calm before the storm. When it does sink in, be prepared to see people looting and raiding stores to gather supplies. And expect there to also be much guarding of said stores. There are bound to be groups of people who try and claim such retailers as there own to try and turn a profit. Such a state will last for only so long until the stores eventually are emptied of all their supplies. Afterwards, towns or groups of people will be forced to band together and launch raids on neighboring cities/towns to get needed supplies. A nation will quickly disolve down to what is essentially tribal warfare. Tribes of people will be forced to kill others in order to survive. Ever played the games Fallout/Fallout 2? If not, go look it up up. Same ideas portrayed there but in a slighlty more futuristic and sci-fi setting. Eventually, all pre-made supplies will dry up completely. People will be forced to create their own goods, raise their own food, breed their own stock. Times will go back to a simpler day when people were forced to supply for themselves and look out for their own good.
This is just a basic quick run down of what may happen if things keep on going down the same path.

But anyways, let us pray that it does not come to that. What I think is the most realistic end of times, for humanity anyways is probably either Nuclear War or a meteor crashing on Earth. If, however, that were to happen, then what do you think could fix it or begin to fix it?

Since the stocks are falling, people are forced to lower their prices. Since the lower people are forced to lower their prices, the higher management will have no choice but to lower the prices. This also goes for gasoline too. I looked outside and saw the price for gas dropped down to $2.99 unleaded. This is a sign that the prices are falling dramatically. Soon enough, things will get back on track, we've gone through worse things before this time.
@Shintetsu, I don't really think it will even out so soon. The Great Depression was bad, but right now, is a bit worse in my opinion. Oil is dropping, yes, but that has nothing really to do with the US's economic problems. Oil/Gasoline has to be sold at the same price everywhere, because if it was lower in one place, countries would try to get that oil cheap. So the price is really dependent on the world in general.
Wow, so what you're saying is: with the population increasing everyday, economic problems seeming endless and commodities at their breaking point, mankind as you know it will set back to ZERO? In essence, we'll go back to the good ol' days of farming, until we rebuild society?!
But you know, you do provide interesting thoughts Devoidless. Spooky, but interesting! I do believe it won't be that bad -- I don't have evidence to support that, but ... I just know. Maybe it's just denial kicking in?
ShintetsuWA, you're way off. Since the rate of profit has been in decline pretty much since the start of industrialisation, and certainly profit rates are nowhere near that of the 70s and 80s, employers will be driving down wages as well as increasing prices in order to try to maintain profits. = recession, and yes in my opinion, depression. But by collectivising and participating in our unions at work we can hope to ensure that we are not the ones made to pay for the blunders of our rulers and the heads of banks and industry.
Ehh, when stocks drop, the dollar becomes useless and it cant be traded for much. So businesses cannot survive, unless it lowers its wages dramatically to be able to afford things. So the result is rather inflation...
I'd say the end of times is something that only man can achieve himself... the chances of a meteor hitting are way too slim. I'd rather bet on wars, pollution and the like!
The end of time/the end of the human race would probably be inflicted by humans. With intelligence responsibility comes, and humanity takes little care in that responsibility. I agree to PixelSmash. The earth will outlive us, wars or evolved illnesses would kill us. Some scientists give the human race about 5000 years max, then we have destroyed ourself.
There is no way of truly knowing when the world will end, there are no sources that tell, any guesses about "The world will end in such and such a year" and "A meteor will hit the earth a second time and wipe out all living things", I respect that others have their beliefs, but they cannot change mine, I am sure that the world would end at an unexpected time, when none of us would even think of it. I did not come up with this, but by reading the Bible, I have learned about what the signs will be when the world is about to end. 1. The world will go to war for the last time. (WW3) 2. Israel will once again become a nation. (already happened) 3. --- I can't remember the last sign.
But some of these doomsayers have a slight correctness, the signs of the 2nd coming of God are already happening. However this is no the case, the doomsayers are speaking falseness with whatever else they say, about HOW the world will end, etc. I try to convince people to live a fruitful and a good life.
Anyone heard of the Flagellants from the middle ages? Well, i think groups like that will be created again, exept instead of overthrowing churches, they will overthrow governments.
