I decided I would play Banjo Kazooie. I never beat the game and in one day I got fairly close to beating the game. I noticed in Wozza's Cave their was this ice wall and looking through it was a giant key of ice.

I have heard of the Ice Key before but this time I decided to do some online research. Within Banjo Kazooie, there are 6 secret eggs and 1 ice key. According to IGN, Rare tried to allow players to swap Banjo Kazooie for Banjo Tooie while the system was still running. Most games would get bugged up and perminant damage is common. Because of this, Rare had to ditch the project. It is stated that the secrets in Banjo Kazooie were suposed to help onlock goodies in Banjo Tooie.

Youtube footage on the secrets

In Banjo Tooie, there are two easter eggs and an ice key. To obtain the secrets in Banjo Kazooie, you had to use cheats (in game cheats were available) to get the secrets. In Banjo Tooie, the secrets were much more simple to find without cheats.

Now to my knowlage, there is no way to Stop n' Swop (switching cartridges without turning the power off). You can find the ice key in Banjo Tooie and 2 easter eggs. Therefore why would you need the 6 eggs and the ice key in Banjo Kazooie.

With cheating devices such as gameshark, you can unlock an evil bottle's spirit mode where his spirit will follow you and player 2 can take over other enemy monsters. Though I am not sure if such mode is real and I can only find one video on youtube (4 videos all the same ones). People still swear the videos are real though.

Were the other 4 easter eggs supposed to originally unlock this mode and more? I do not know.

I personally beleive that the Stop N Swop experiment was aborted. The secrets in Banjo Kazooie were suposed to unlock secrets in Banjo Tooie. Some people still beleive that you can Stop N Swap, but nobody knows exactly how. I think that the Ice Key and 2 Easter Eggs in Banjo Tooie were added because the creaters of the games realised that it would be unfair for players to see the ice key and never know what it did. (Although most people never knew it was possible to get the ice key, seeing it in Banjo Tooie soothed the minds of hundreds of people.) The ice key in Banjo Tooie turned Kazooie into a dragon, maybe that secret was suposed to be available only to those who got the ice key... maybe not. We may never know.

The Ice Key is quite a mystery. Post your ideas and if you find any new information or theories on the topic please feel free to link them.

The Answer

I beleive that may be the answer to the Ice Key and why it never took off. Bleh Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are such great games but the new ones look so lame when they are that cartoonishly lazy. (Mumbo had cool skin and skull texture, where did it go?!)

Anyways I am off to bed I beleive the mystery is solved. Still... feel free to share your opinions.
