Maybe it's just me, but for some reason, Super Smash Bros. Brawl doesn't feel right. The action was slowed down, a few characters got nerfed (poor Samus), and I feel like it really lost its competitive edge. Don't get me wrong, the adventure mode was outstanding, but I'm talking about the actual fighting. It seems like a "dumbed down" version of SSBM. Thoughts?

It doesn't matter whether or not SSBB is superior. In general, people seem to fall in to 2 groups. those who liked both SSB and SSBB, and those who favored SSBM. SSBM is certainly the game which stands out in gameplay, and is favored by people who consider themselves (or are considered by others) to be on a competitive level.

SSBM WAS faster, but the difference is minuscule especially considering the speed of some of the characters in SSBB.

This means that worse players get an advantage whereas the better players lose their edge. Players like Ike would normally have no chance against regular players due to his speed, but with the reformed gameplay he becomes a competitor.

May I refer you to GimpyFish? He was a powerful competitor in SSBM and he used Bowser. Speed is just an issue with play style. I myself have mastered (in SSBB) Snake, Zelda, Ganondorf, and Marth. Characters of all different speeds. You can argue that I can't stand up to Meta Knight's crazy short recovery time and instant attacks, but I can argue... "Fight me."

As far as characters go, many of those who have known SSB and SSBM and also know SSBB will agree that the roster is most balanced of the three games. I would bet that believable tiers will ever surface in SSBB. The characters that were excluded from SSBM certainly are a loss, but those characters were either fairly unimportant or were adequately replaced. Roy being replaced by Ike was even a great improvement. This is because marth was superior to Roy in (almost) every way. I can back this up if needed. Honestly, I'm glad some characters were removed, but I wouldn't advise the removal of any more when the time comes for a new Super Smash Brothers game.

Competition- This is not something that can really be argued between games. SSBM was geared toward technical skill (I would say even a little too much) whereas SSBB involves strategy, the ability to anticipate/deceive your opponent, and just as much reflex as SSBM. I personally enjoy SSBB more because of this. I get bored in technical fights sometimes, so I would prefer to play SSBB competitively.

Closing thoughts: If you took the time to read all this, then thanks. This is my favorite series ever, I have to talk about it sometimes.

I prefer SSBB. There it is. I just think it's far more immersive and I love that the roster is as balanced as it is. However, I don't have anything against people who prefer SSB or SSBM. I've passed countless hours playing all 3 games. : ) I just think a few SSBM fans should play SSBB and THEN go back to SSBM and see if they still feel the same. Memories are sometimes a bit more glamorous than reality. If you own a Wii, you DEFINITELY should own Super Smash Brothers Brawl

CLOSING closing thought: I almost wrote &quoteace" at the end of this without realizing what my username is... That would've been awful.
