I was wondering if any people have read the whole Bible? Personally I have only read bits but I wanted to know who has read it all and did it actually inspire you in life?

Like most everyone, I've only read bits and pieces of the New Testament. The rest of the bible I've gathered from several different references in other media ranging from books to moving pictures to video games.

One does not even need to read any of the bible to learn about ninety percent of the core beliefs and teachings. They seem to be everywhere.

I'm actually astonished someone has not made "The Bible: The Movie" yet. It would seem like the most logical way to get it out to the younger generations....Great, now that I said it there us going to be one. >_<

Funny thing: Many atheists have read the entire Bible, and thus desided on being atheists. Many Christians have not read the whole bible, and that might be the thing saving them.
Also, I do not give much for the old Testament, only read some of the new. I like Matthew the best. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"

In a literal way?? Oh dear...

I've read bits of it. It's too heavy reading and is written in an annoying non-flowing form, so if I don't have to, I won't.

What do you beleive in raz?

This thread isn't about me, but I'll quickly sum it up.

It's not about what I do believe, it's about what I don't believe in; namely, any deity or concept of a deity that I have ever been exposed to. I believe in no afterlife concept, rather that we will simply be in the same state as we were pre-birth - nothingness in every sense of the word. I believe that we have no inherit purpose in life other than what we make of it; hopefully, we choose to live our lives in an altruistic way, but if not, it's not that we are not fulfilling our purpose in life or somehow disobeying, it's just that we're being douchebags that deserve punishment. My basic philosophy is based on the golden rule in a way; as long as you are not harming or infringing on any one else's rights, you have the right to do whatever you want.

I have always been a Christian but the only thing I don't like being in a religion is war and hate, how are you suppose to live in peace when your always gonna be hated by another religion?

I have read the Bible all the way through, and I cannot believe that people do believe in god. Consider the entire old testament, for crying out loud. Look at the atrocities that were supposedly commanded by a loving God. I call BS.

The atrocities weren't commited by a loving God, but a bunch of brutal, flawed humans to pathetic to follow ten simple rules.

There is also a very good reason for the brutality of the Old Testament. If you read Renee Girard's writing on the subject, you would see why. I happen to cite him quite often in these religious debates, but that is just because he is so darn brilliant!

Personally, I've read about 75% of the New Testament, and maybe 30% of the Old Testament. Several sections multiple times though. Genesis, Romans, and the Gospels are my favorites.

I really need to get around to finishing the bible though...

That's what happened with me. I read Genesis when I was curious one day. I managed to plow through the whole "Enoch is the son of Adam, who lived to be 15 kajillion years old, Vesterby is the son of Enoch, who lived to be OVER 9000 years old" thing. So annoying, but it's a good insight. Maybe I'll pick it up again. Even if the Old Testament is brutal, it's definitely a good insight into why Jesus was sent.
