What do you think about it? I find nothing wrong with the thought of cannibalism just as long as the bodies are acquired in accordance with whatever laws may be in place. And I am quite curious to what we taste like.

I know, I just wanted to get some kind of joke out of it. Despite what I posted, I would NEVER, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES eating another human being, I would rather die than survive, having something like that in my memories. It would eventually drive my crazy.

A modest proposal doesn't sound half bad.

I think the take home message is that all things being equal, cannibalism is still probably not a medically responsible practice. Keywords include preons, toxic liver, spleen, sequestered toxins in fat...

For the most part, cannibalism is a very rare practice outside of cultures that traditionally promoted it for whatever reason. However, more recently there has been an emergence of curiosity following a string of cases where a person has ingested part of another person, some claiming that this was in fact a consensual practice, prompting thought on what is now known as endosomatophilia. Others might be (and I haven't looked at the other posts in this thread) tempted to use fictional figures like Hannibal Lecter as a reference, or even the list of well known serial killers who have exhibited such behaviours for a range of reasons.

I think it is sick! I mean oh my god?!? I just can't even think about why someone would want to eat there own species.

I'm sure you're familiar with the Eucharist. It's one of the rites practiced by many Christians, through which they endeavor to become closer to their perceived Savior. It started at the Last Supper, and has continued up through the years to today. The ritual (or sacrament or communion) consists of eating a wafer and drinking some wine. The wafer is supposed to represent the body of Christ, while the wine represents his blood.

This is where it gets complicated. Somewhere in this process the wafer actually, miraculously, becomes the body of Christ, whilst the wine actually becomes his blood (there's some disagreement over when, exactly, this occurs, but it's generally agreed that it does, indeed, occur).

So I've got one simple question for the Christians here. Since they like to take complicated issues and distill them into one ridiculously oversimplified question, I was hoping they could answer my one simple question about the Eucharist.

CANNIBALISM IS BAD, ISN'T IT?

we are very, very different from animals because we can think, and choose moral choices, choices between good and bad, animals act solely on instinct

No. Just. . .no.

Cannibalism is something that I woudl resort to if it was the only path to survival- though not in any other situation. Te 'Mad Human disease' would be another menace, but then I would stay away from the brain.

Well I know that The american Indians DID NOT practice cannibalism because they believed doing so would cause the innate human greed and gluttony to blossom out turning them into Wendigos.

Rather we see Cannibalism practiced in the fictional book "Robinson Cruiso" Which has led me to conclude, it is probably only the island folks of small masses of land surrounded by ocean. This is the case probably because there is a limited amount of resources on the islands themselves, and when times are tough, the natives there would probably resort to Cannibalism.
